I started with a mix of fitteds and some prefolds and terry flats. I've never used the terry flats as nappies and I didn't get the hang of the pre-folds so gave up on them.

I now have a mix of fitteds and AIOs. AIOs are great when we're out and about as Miss I will not lie still

I started with some of someones s/h stash. so it was easyshe gave me her terry flats (thanks claire!)and sold me some nappies for $5 each Bree was 3 months old and still doing lots of NB BF poo.
I got almost 2 dozen terry flats, 2 fleece covers/wraps, 2 sandra's stuffables pocket nappies (not available new anymoreone print one plain), a few fitteds like bubba j and an early cuddles in cloth growable (OSFA) and a flannel ericas with velcro/aplix. (wasn't long until i bought some more LOL)
I learnt a basic terry fold for fun, but mostly pad folded the terries into the covers.then layed in a cut up fleece baby blanket as liners.i also used the pocket nappies unstuffed as covers, so i could get more than one use out of them (i had a few flanny flats that did stuff well into the pockets though).

what do i have now? ALOT! Well i have tried most brands and now just buy my favourites - or sometimes i need to try a new nappy that i see.
I think its good to try a few brands AND systems, rather than just sticking with the few you know work....coz babies wee habits and growth can change and what suits them at 3 months may not suit them at 12 months iykwim. they might become a heavy wetter for a while.

mostly now we use fitteds at home with wool, and pockets for outings. wool and fitteds for nights, sometimes fleece aio's or pockets

Same as Julie, when I started there wasn't a hell of a lot. I had mainly Bubba J (different types) Baby Beehinds (hemp and cotton print outer), tots and a couple of secondhand OS nappies. I collected more as I went along, and sold what I didn't like so much, but usually by the time I find nappies that work really well I have too many nappies anyway LOL. So I'm definitely a generalist. Of my newborn stash I have heaps of different brands because I want to try all the ones I never got a chance to try, and also because I have faves that have carried over from the end of Kira's nappy journey .

I justify it by saying it helps my advocacy stuff LOL! If I try lots of different types then I can talk knowledgably about them ROFL!!

I started 8 years ago and modern cloth doesn't have the variety it does today, but I made about 5 different designs myself and found I liked different designs for different purposes. As modern cloth grew I started buying the occasional here and there until my second child toilet trained but had about 5 different one's. Since we started over with baby number 3 (after not having any more babies and getting rid of everything) I started over with my favourites baby beehinds and went for a few covers and a few nice looking nappies/covers to show off and for special occasions. I've got about 6 different brands now but 40+ nappies the majority are BBB

great ideas I am hoping to get some TIC and BBB & BBH plus the Nuture nappy stash sounds a great bargain ... will this set me up for twin almost 9 month olds - from now to toilet training -
plus I will use terryflats/ maybe stitched prefolds - will this work ?
I am hoping to try and dye some flats to make them more exciting.
I have one boy in flats now - with pink pins -all I had in the house
got to buy some snappis
I have 2 eenee design covers (bit big though) with tartan fabric outside & PUL inside I think - the velcro strips do up at the waist around the back

I started with 2 Greenkids ... and then bought a bit of fabric for my mum to make me some pockets.

Since then I've gone to AIO's and am now just venturing into fitteds & covers ... so we'll see how that goes when all my fluffy mail arrives .

I'm into trying a bit of everything so to speak, and then I can decide what works best for us.
