Ok, just a quick question....
Some nappies say "hemp/organic cotton". Does this mean the hemp is or isn't organic? Is there organic hemp? Or is all hemp organic? Oh, I'm confused!

I think you can fairly safely assume most hemp is organic, although some manufacturers won't have certification. Hemp is naturally organic to the extent that it is an eco friendly crop to grow etc...it's cotton that you might prefer the peace of mind of certification for.
Mostly hemp is blended with organic cotton as opposed to regular (non eco cotton), and that may or may not have certification. If you're in doubt, just ask your supplier details of their product's certification.

Hemp is a naturally gown and harvested fiber. You want to be careful if you are seeking truly organic that your organics indicate that they are CERTIFIED organics, in which case a certificate (usually an attachment) or verification from the milling company will be provided or back the claim up with. This also means the machinery is cleaned prior to milling to ensure it does not mix with non-organic milled fabrics. There are Hemp/Cottons and there are Hemp/Certified Organic Cottons. There are other fabrics also that are orgainc. Hemp/OCV and or Bamboo/OCV (v=velour). Both of these are very lush (a bit pricey) fabrics but really really nice to the skin. If you want truly organic you should have them prepared in their undyed natural coloring to avoid adding in any additional additives. There are many places that offer these products. For those who shop on the HC, you will find an auction going on now that has many listing from both diapering and wool moms, some organic at the wahmchicks.com site until March 4. I see that many here follow the HC but I don't know how many of you support the charities outside of your neck of the woods. It is one location that will have many things listed together. Including some Luxe Baby, Jesse has a beautiful collaboration up -- she does organic cotton velour items that are simply georgous.
