Yes I see now that it is a much larger job than I expected!
![]() I have just put a few of the main nappies that others have highly recommended into my spreadsheet, so I could make a decision which combinations to buy to start with. I thought about making a comprehensive list to post here, of all nappy brands, hmm, but that could take a while! It would be a great project though for one of the existing nappy websites to undertake, as it would surely help newbies to comprehend it all and get a full picture of everything that is available. Once the original chart is done, it would then be up to each brand/business to ensure their products are always up to date and their new products are added to the list! |

Hi
I found this while doing some research the other day. It has some great info on it and useful comparisons. http://www.labyrinth.net.au/~obsidia...lculator2.html Regards Chantell (22) Malakai (March 05) Due June 4th |

Yes I had an idea to try and make a comparison list, but realised you can't really compare them..... as I said on that page... A $3 nappy I bought was not as good value for money as a $27 one... seriously... I wouldn't even bother buying another, even though it was $3. So you can't just compare price, its not fair.
On that page above all I was trying to do was work out an average cost of nappy components so I could work out an average cost comparison between disposables and reusables. What would be a good idea to do is to compare the average cost of one particular system (eg all fitteds), and combinations of sytems (like fitteds with some pockets)... using an average price for the nappies.... (which I did on the above page, based on nappies I found when I did it - about a year ago)... but I was only guessing on how many covers and boosters you'd need... so maybe if several people were polled about how many of each thing they would or do use, then an average amount of nappies could be used to find the average amount it costs (if that makes sense) Then make lists of like products..... so all hemp fitteds together and all flannelette fitteds, all one size, all single size etc. and soakers and fleece covers.... so you are at least comparing items that are similar. But you'd need so many categories.. you'd probably want to have side snapping and front snapping, and snaps Vs velcro... Perhaps if it was done as a group project? Its a bit too mammoth for one person to do I think.... but if it was broken into sections and each person work on a couple of sections.... So you could make a list of all the prices of, say, bamboo fitteds, or Print PUL pockets...... and then at the end all the data could be put together to make a really detailed list....? So then you'd end up with a list that lets you reference by cost or by a specific thing (eg cheapest one size, side snapping bamboo fitted)... but would then also list all the nappies in any particular category (eg all one size, side snapping bamboo fitteds on the market) I'd be willing to do some compiling...

I tried this with someone a few weeks back and gave up after an hour when we realised just how hard it is...serriously never ending ..not only all the brands but all the different types of each brand too... side snap, night nap, fitted, aio, pocket, touch tape, front snap, fleece aio, PUL aio... and that's just 1 brand
not to mention bamboo, hemp, flannel, etc etcFor exapmle.. green Kids, anytime, funtime, dreamytime,..... How many variety of VB's are there? It really is impossible. |

I'm sure it can be done.
Perhaps could it be broken up by brand.. each person gets a brand (or two), and looks up that. Then at least you're not wandering over the net looking for side snapping nappies, but can do all the research on the one site. What we'd need is something like wiki.. but a database.... where people can go in and edit it to add the details of the brand they are looking up.... so the tables could be put up on a website somewhere, and as the individuals do their brand they can add it to the listings when they want to. Then a user can search for a particular thing and it can bring back the results.

Would something like this be helpful (they have a free version, but your database will be publically viewable - which is what we'd want anyway)
http://dabbledb.com Seems to be a system where multiple users can add info to the database, which can then be searched by anyone to find the data. So if an entry was made for each nappy/cover etc. it could hopefully be grouped by its type, and searchable by its keywords... and presumably if someone was to search for a particular thing "side snap" it would bring up a list of all the entries that contained those words... and hopefully you can view an entire group of entries too... If that idea works, then it surely wouldn't be too hard to get a comparison system up and running. If several people each took on a couple of brands, collected the info (name, price, size, fabrics, how it does up and any other relevant details) and added it to the database... and then to keep it updated it would just be a reasonably simple case of just adding whatever new nappy brand comes up or editing a particular entry. I haven't had a chance to look through, as I need to go to bed... but tucows has a lot of freeware and shareware programs for things, and this is their database listing: http://www.tucows.com/search?search_...h_size_multi=b (most are probably not relevant)
