You have a great sounding starter stash! With so many babies due this year, and still a couple of months to go for you, you might want to keep a lookout in the threads here for people's comments on how their nappy stash has gone with their newborn. I'm guessing it will come up a bit.

Carmen - about double that number of nappies per day was pretty normal for all my girls in the beginning Just like a bunch of leaking taps lol.

I think we had some days when we went through 18+ (in a 24 hour period) nappies... luckily I had gone a bit nuts with making nappies and we had at least 30 fitteds on hand!! However, looking back on it, we might have been better off not having so many newborn sized fitteds and supplementing the stash with some infant prefolds. They dry quickly, are fairly cheap and can be used later on as pocket stuffers.

We did have terry squares (which we didn't really use as nappies until Mish was about 3 months old) and about two dozen secondhand flannellette flats (which got a huge workout as burp cloths etc). While I really recommend having some flats around, if you start out without them and then decide you need them, they're fairly easy to pick up in regular brick and mortar shops

Sounds like you've got a great stash together though!

Teeny nappies are so cute LOL.

Um what's planned for my newborn stash?

5 bamboo flats
5 muslin flats
5 hemp flats
5 prefolds
6-8 newborn fitteds
couple of AIOs
2 nb PUL covers, however many knitted covers I can make LOL. Maybe a swaddlebees fleece cover.

I may need more but we'll see how we go and just order some more of what works best!

I can understand not wanting to bother with flats (I was like that with Kira) but I was totally unprepared for newborn sizing and ended up stuck using disposables for a couple of weeks because only about 2 or 3 of my nappies fit her early on (she was 8lb 5oz). Sounds like you have a great start, I am counting 16 nappies you can use on your newborn (you should be able to use the bamboozle if you get creative with fastening) so you may want to keep an eye out for some more bargains. Would you use prefolds?? Not as tricky to use as flats and might be good for just bumming around the house?

im with mandy - if you change after every wee/poo (they have such delicate new skin at first i just couldn't not do it) it is around 20 changes a day for a while.thank gosh i will be using cloth this time!!
i think laying prefolds in a cover will be quite economical, as well as trim and easy - wont it be simliar to an aio if you just padfold the prefold and do up the cover? or even if i find i have to snappi the prefold thats quite easy too

I used to change Houston about 15 times a day for the first couple months. But Delilah hardly ever pee'd as a newborn. I think about 10 times a day was all she needed at the most. Sometimes Id check her after 2 hours and she'd still be dry. But then when she did pee, the flood gates really opened up, lol. Still, I think she would probably be unusual in her newbown pee'ing habits.

YES YES YES! Padfolding is super easy and now that I have and have used a BP its a very similar system (but not as fluffy LOL). Some of the really snug covers with a padfolded prefold offer a great fit and super containment. I make them up in advance with a liner and then at change time its just take one off pop the other on, then make up the cover you just took off. It's really no different to changing the snap-in on an AIO, like BP's and itty's. It's such an economical and trim way to go.

Hannah I think my DD2 is like Delilah. She seems to save her wee! Oh, and poo. She goes like every three days!

Thanks for the great advice girls,

I'm not really sure about prefolds. How do they work compared to a normal flat? I have 6 Baby Greens countours which might be similar maybe? Which brand/fabric is a good choice if I opt for using these?
