Talking Curious

1. What's in your nappy stash?
2. How often do you wash?

Thanks.

I wash rarely these days as Brisbane is suffering under lack of water.
They want us to try to use 140Litres a day and a standard wash uses 160... don't know how to get around that.
I don't have many MCNs but heaps of terries and have been giving DS nappy free time hoping he wants to use the potty, but he isn't

Maybe try catching and bucketing some water into the machine?

We own, and I shall itemise cos i feel like it:

3 x fleece poockey pockets
3 x hemp pookey pockets
2 x cotton pookey pockets (can u tell i like pookey pockeys? )
1 x bubba J hemp nappy
1 x Ericas fitted
1 x baby greens one-size
1 x Bluegum Babies nappy, though a tad too small
2 x Bits for Bots Bamboo
1 x Baby Beehinds...the old plush ones
1 x swaddlebees pocket (PUL)
1 x cute tushies fitted (for night)
2 x VBSN (nights, of course)
Baby Beehinds PUL cover, and several Tinkle Tots covers (procare)
Assortment of flannel squares, hemp, bamboo and microfibre boosters.
Collection of cloth wipes and facewashers
Some soakers and longies...only get washed (hand) when needed, which is rarely
9 x Peacepockets - these are our 'daycare' or babysitter nappies, I am anal about how they get washed and where they get used.

Most of our nappies have been used for aaaaaaages...the peacepockets are fairly new so I'm trying to keep them that way. LOL We wash about 2 times a week...just nappies, and that is 2 full loads. Could stretch it out a day longer except we don't have enough wipes, have a wipe-black-hole in this house. I wash the peacepockets seperately once or twice a week, either seperately or with some of DDs (non-fluff causing) clothes, if they're not dirty nappies.

I should do an inventory of what we have and use but we have a lot.
Pookey Pockets quick dry fitteds are a fave - would be happy with 10 of these. Also Bits for Bots and Beetlebums. I like bamboo and side snapping fitteds like Very Baby. We prefer fitteds and wool covers and this is what we have most of. I have almost as many woollies as nappies. :o

I only have one nappy bucket so wash every second day, which suits me as we live in unpredictable Melbourne and no dryer or clothes airer.

I have lots of different types of nappis to try out (and quite a few of them are second hand ) I have about 30 nappies but I am considering getting a bulk pack or two as I am in the process of convering DS to cloth as well.

I must admit my fav are:

Fitteds: bubbaj bamboshka, itti bitti and very baby dyed bamboo.

AIO: I loove bubblebubs - they are great - also my sisters hand me down home made ones!!! *LOL* I know weired but they are good!!!

it's 140L per person per day, so with 2 of you in the house, you get 280L. and if you take it as the average amount, if you use a bit more one day because you wash, and less the next couple of days because you don't wash, then it makes it a bit more managable.

I have over 30 nappies and two more in the post. Usually wash them every day and a half as she goes through them pretty quickly.

Tanya - I use those miracle wash laundry balls (with the pellets) and because they leave no residue and stay in the machine, you can skip the rinse and use only half the water. Just an idea...

Tanya that must be hard! I try to save water, but in Hong Kong we don't have the problems that Oz is having, so it's not so urgent.

Tita,

1. What's in your nappy stash?

4 x Peapods (new style) pockets
3 x Happy Heinys pockets
1 x Fuzzibunz pocket
1 x Bumwear pocket
1 x Bumkins AIO
2 x Doubibou fitted pockets (ie, pockets that require a cover)
1 x Tots Bots Bamboozle
1 x Tinkletots fitted nappy
1 x Tinkletots procare cover
5 x Kushies Classic flannelette fitted nappies
8 x Bambino Mio prefolds
3 x Bambino Mio PUL covers
3 x Kushies PUL covers
2 x Homemade wool bumjumpers
1 x Knitted longies
Heaps of terry flats but they never get used as nappies these days.

So if you add up the actual nappies (not including prefolds etc), there are about 19.

2. How often do you wash?

I usually wash every second day

Meredith, what's with that wipes black hole?? Where do they go?? I am so glad I never bought nice fancy wipes, because I've probably lost about half of mine!! They are only cheapo flannel dustcloths.
