Default Do you think this is ok?

Im putting together a list of recomendations for a friend who is planning on using cloth. she only wants to use one system.

this is what i think ill recomend:
24 x CanningVale Flats
4 x Snappies
4-6 x Newborn size bummis whisper pants
1 x Bummis polar fleece cover
1 or 2 x Haute one size Wonder wraps
15-24 BumGenious pockets
1 x little squirt
1-2 x wet bags
20-30 x Cheap face cloths (for wipes)

so what do you think? is this to much or will she need more???

thanks!

mel

ps - mod's i hope this isnt in the wrong area, if it is sorry!!!

sounds great, but I would add another 12 flats and try to get some fleece covers
oh and microfleece liners
I don't think you'll need some many newborn sized bummis, try for some other cover that can grow with bub, maybe a wool soaker

i personally wouldn't suggest she buy a lot of the one brand of nappy (like the Bumgenius) prior to giving birth, as that particular style may not suit her babies' shape. I'd say buy 2 of them with the view to purchasing more if she did like them.

Do the bum genius come with stuffers? (i've never tried one?)
Haven't tried the Haute wraps either...

maybe some flanny flats or prefolds for the real NB stage, terry flats can seem bulky on a small NB.

I can't imagine that the newborn bummis would fit very long over a flat- smalls seem quite tiny to me. I agree some more flats would be handy too (or prefolds so they can be used in the pockets)

The Small Bummis covers (not the NB) fit my DS from birth. He was born about 3.5kg's. I would have to go along the same lines as everybody else and start with some flats and 2 - 4 covers. I made do with 2 for quite a while (use plastic snibs as a back up).

I would also say that you probably won't need the little squirt for quite some time cause the NB poos just come off in the wash. The idea of 2 wetbags is good though so that you can use one while the other is in the wash.

Perhaps look at the Bummis starter pack that you can buy. It has prefolds and everything in it.

Your friend may find that different nappies are useful for different time so its best not to stock up on too many of the same sort till she has actually tried the nappies on her bubba.

yeah you definetly gotta try the 'one system' before you buy the lot!
another good system to consider is the popular baby beehinds fitteds.
might be more versitile and reliable than a set of pockets/aio's - nb's are good with fitteds, BBB are great for nights with a wool cover as well
a wool cover
an all fleece cover (bummis still has pul in it and some people have complained they wick) - why get fleece if its not breathable coz it still has pul in it?
some prefolds or flanny flats (both good for nb's and stuffing in pockets...)
one of each 'system' for her to try, a pocket and an aio aswell as the fitteds?

tikki - yep, bum genious do come with stuffers

kris - ive just stopped squeezing jet into the new born bummis & he is almost 8kg - hes long though! i figured i would just be able to put him straight into mediums by the time i was ready to get more but they are massive so ive been waiting on my small covers to arrive

thanks for all your advise, its a good point about not getting one system to start - but i do find that costs more because thats what ive done and now i have heaps of different types of nappies!

Perhaps get her shopping at a store that has lots of different types of MCN's, that way at least you cut down on postage (it's always the killer for me!) while having a range of different ones.
