Eileen, I hope you can hold off locking the thread for a little longer (like hopefully less than an hour) as I managed to finish my creation on the way out today and am uploading the camera now.

And by the way, my earlier reconstructed training (post 106 p 11) a fatal flaw: the ripstop nylon I used to water proof them (which I already knew was a bit iffy) failed dismally - DD weed straight through them. About the same level of protection as a supermarket pair of training pants, perhaps halving the amount ending up on the carpet, but not anywhere the quality of others I've made with that pattern (where none gets on the carpet). So I'll unpick it and use PUL - I took it a bit close to the edge trying to maximise reused materials.

This second attempt at reconstructed training pants took a lot longer than planned - I thought I'd make lots of these but now I'm not so sure as it ended up mostly hand sewn. Maybe I'll keep one in a box for rare occasions I can hand sew when out e.g. when watching DD in a playground.

Anyway, the main component is a hand-me-down cheap acrylic cover with perished elastic (I've ended up with many hand-me-downs of this brand from different sources and mostly they have perished elastic - I'm going to rip the elastic out of all the others I've got as it sticks to the acrylic as it dies). I took the wetzone reinforcement layer of acrylic out as that was where I wanted to put the absorbant bit of the training pants, and with turn-and-topstich I didn't know any way to make it match the wetzone layer neatly.

The wetzone training pants modification was PUL (unused, but bought in a WAHM's stash sell-off), then old towelling, then inside against the skin was cut from "disposable" cloth maternity pants (which I got a good year out of as undies before the elastic went).

They were rather fiddly to sew in as unpicking the acrylic had opened part of the leg holes.

For the decoration I used a small fleece offcut for the mouth. The black part of the eyes was cut from a zinc cream damaged nappy liner. The button eyes were unused but they were mother-of-pearl buttons from my late grandmother's stash (the pack was marked in imperial currency, so pretty old).

I took in the sides as they aren't going over a nappy so don't need to be so big, and I resewed the casing for the elastic at the top as I had to pick the old elastic out in little pieces. I used new elastic.

DD is very pleased with her smiley pants. I'm not sure myself - cute or creepy?

Eileen, I have to confess
I am quite sad you haven't said anything about my nappy!
I was looking forward to what the reconstructing queen had to say about my nappy
Hoping you just missed it and don't think its crap! LOL

Aviva, that looks just like a Panda! You should add some panda bear ears
