I think I would stock up on the some great fitteds like (no longer available
) erica's and/or pookey pockets quick-dry fitteds plus some great covers - love Lis's procare covers - for the explosive poo stage which was the first 12-14 months here. Fitteds worked well for us (containment wise) and DD was rarely looked after by other people so it wasn't too confusing.I'd stick with thirsty nappies like VBSN or fave bamboo fitteds (with extra boosting!) for nights rather than experiementing with 10 different things...only to discover the original was the best for us. From there I would want to work towards having mainly pockets - I think peacepockets as they tend to confuse non mcn baby sitters less than any other pockets we've tried, and while I love the concept of AIOs, they're just not practical in our climate. So almost-AIOs are the next best thing. ![]() Of course...that is what I think I would do. I know that I would find it incredibly hard to not attempt to try one of every nappy out there. I've managed to do mcn on around $400 with trying some of the most popular nappies out there so who knows, maybe the temptation would be just too much!

Thanks for answering. It's great to get more insight into why someone has made the decisions they have (or would make different ones if they could) iykwim.

I'd get one-size fitteds, preferably bamboo, and a mix of good covers/soakers.
Having a mix of pockets, AIO's, fitteds, and covers was too confusing for DH, he just stopped using covers altogether. So I had to go all pockets to avoid wet clothes If I'd gone fitted + cover right from the start, he would never had realised that there are some nappies that don't need covers! Fitted + cover is more economical for multiple baby families as they last longer, and fewer leg-hole leaks.

I'd use terrys and wool and change to some good fitteds if I thought it was neccessary (ie they stopped being absorbent enough or kept falling off - both happend with Jack). I would use some good fleece covers perhaps to start off with.

I would have set a budget! Probably a mix of flats and one size fitteds (Cute Tooshies!), with the odd "pretty nappy" thrown in to keep me interested. If I was putting a child in care, I'd get a few one-size pockets too. It's easy to say things in hindsight, like, I wouldn't do all that experimentation, or buying a bulk pack of something I hadn't tried before. The journey's half the fun though, even if it can cost a lot. I wish I hadn't spent so much. You don't feel very green or frugal spending a heap on something that only really needs to be functional. Oh yes, and I wouldn't spend a heap of time trying to find the perfect nappy. I don't think it exists, and if it did, I wouldn't be able to afford it!

I would do mostly what I have done - bulk Baby beehinds, flats, plus some sized pockets for daycare. Maybe one or two special show off AIO's or something. What I wish I hadn't done is tried out different pockets, and mainly OSFA... really annoying! I think to get the best fit with pockets (which is crutial for good containment) a sized option is the way to go. Also, when you consider the wear of PUL, the shorter they are used for each baby, the longer they will last.
