Default Cheap fitteds for beginner

Hi everyone How's things?

This is my first thread apart from my intro.
OK so my DD was in Terry squares when she was a wee lass, this was before I was introduced to the world of MCN but my DS refuses to sit still long enough for me to get a terry square round his bum, so I've been doing a bit of research and seem to keep coming back to one type of nappy, pocket fitteds I love the idea of being able to stuff and unstuff as I live in Melbourne, which is not exactly known for it's neverending sunshine so I'll need something that will dry fairly easy and quickly.

So I guess I'm just wondering if anyone can recommend somehwere where pocket fitteds are available at a cheap price as I'm just kinda 'testing' them so don't want to spend to much money in case I don'e like them or they just aren't right for me (would much rather spend heaps on something I KNOW I'm gonna love)

I heard from someone that there is a 'tester' thread on here but can't seem to find it so I'm assuming you need some kind of clearance or need to have been a member for a certain amount of time or have a certain amount of posts?

Also if anyone can recommend a particular fabric that they find the best that would be awesome my boy is not a big wetter or an explosive pooer.

Thanks heaps everyone
Cheers
Kyls

Ok so do you mean a fitted pocket which then needs a cover or a PUL or fleece pocket which once stuffed is all you need.

Can you sew?

If so you could make a PUL pocket with stuff from here

http://www.nappiescovered.com.au/

Jodie even does kits so it is all there. When I first started i made a heap of PUL pockets and we are still using them today. So 14months down the line.

hi kyls,

the tester forum is a place for wahms to find people to test there nappies
(pre production)..... its not a place to find pockets to 'try' out.

if you want to find cheap pockets then I suggest second hand ones

hi kyls,

your son sounds exactly like my daughter; that's we switched from terry flats to mcn.

have you seen www.buyforbaby.com.au you can buy secondhand nappies there for a reasonable price.

peapods pockets are also a good cheap option as they come with the insert (most don't), and the new bamboo ones sound really good,

or if you can sew you could try making your own, polar fleece can be used to make lovely pockets and you can use half terry flats to stuff them with

yup peapods are great value, about $17 you get a pocket nappy with hemp insert and a small wetbag.they sell them at the weewuns.

my fave pockets were greenkids when i converted, as they are velcro so as easy as a disposable to put on. and you can get cute prints

Ok I'm checking that sit ou tnow Rebecca thanks heaps, I'm still undecided about whether I'll get ones that need a cover or not I guess it comes down how long they will take to dry. I do have a sewing machine SIL bought it for me for xmas...but it is till sitting in it's box as I haven't had the guts to use it yet I havem't used a sewing machine since I was in highschool haha so hopefully I'll find a very easy nappy pattern so I can make some of my own.
Thanks heaps Aimee for clearing that up for me
and Tikki I'm also going to check that site out too
My boy also gets nappy rash a bit too so I'm after a really gentle fabric I wonder if hemp is gentle enough?

oops you said pocket fitteds. pookey pocketson ozebaby too.
only prob with velcro is that one day your son may be able to undo itbut some cant with pants over the top.

ETA - yup i avoid hemp on the inner of a nappy as it can go hard.i prefer it internally

A cheap option for fitteds is Mandy Macs, which are a hemp fitted with a stay dry liner, and they have a sort of pocket. They need a cover, and use a snappi instead of velcro or snaps, which is fiddly on the one hand especially with your wriggly bub, but gives a more custom fit on the other hand.

Also, they are one size fits all, so you don't need to buy more as baby grows.

www.mandymac.com.au

I think they're on special at www.babyblossom.com.au as well?

Other cheap options - Peapods are a cheap and quick drying pocket, because the insert is a folded up square of hemp/cotton, so it opens out to dry. For under $20 you get a pocket, an insert and a mini wetbag. I think that is really great value. Also, you might be able to find a real life shop near you that stocks them so you can look at them and pat them before you buy. The website is www.peapods.com.au and if you hunt around they have a list of real life stockists.

You can also scout around Ozebaby (www.ozebaby.com.au) or Wahmania (www.wahmania.com) to see if anything else catches your eye.
