Question Non-sleeping baby in cloth bot!

Finally I have enough nappies to go full time cloth for my daughter (9 weeks) and part time for my son.

Here's a problem I encountered yesterday. Josie generally sleeps well but is a bit fussy in the afternoons, like most babies I guess! Yesterday, she started the day in disposables as I got all of the cloth ones dry and organised. Normal, long morning naps. In the afternoon she was in Mother-ease One Size and I could not get her to sleep on her own for the life of me. She'd very happily doze on my chest then wake, scream and 'vomit' 5 mins after putting her in her cot. I assumed she was just having one of those days so I let her sleep upright with me.

Last night I put her to bed at her usual time, in another MEOS and again she was awake and screaming 5 minutes later (which is very unusual). I had a look at the way she was lying and wondered if the unfamiliar bulk of the cloth nappy was bothering her, putting her bot too high in the air? The nappy was all as flat as possible across her back but I changed her into a disposable anyway, put her back to bed and she slept straight away, for 6 hours.

Her cot is already on a very slight angle to help stop milk coming back up. She wriggles to the bottom of the cot as it is so I can't increase the angle it's on.

Any suggestions? Please???

Hi Nicole_M,

I dont have an answer for you but just to let you know I have the same problem with my DS who suffers from reflux (he's 5.5 mths).

I've had to sell off my BBB and some other big fitted nappies as they effect him so much. Trimmer MCN work much better for him.

Hope someone else can give you a better answer, just wanted you to now you are not alone.

Thanks for that...while it's not nice for the bubbas, it is nice to know we're not alone.

I think I'll keep the Mother-ease nappies for when she's a bit bigger. She seems to sleep ok in GK pockets.

Would you mind telling me of any trimmer fitteds that you've had success with?

Nicole

nicole, i found the one size nappies too big on my boy for the first 3 months. and he was a 10 pound newborn!

i used (snappiable) prefolds and small size nappies. perhaps you could email a couple of whams and see if they could pop some nappies straight away in the post for you. maybe clo could help you out?

if bulk is the problem, the usual branded small nappies should be less bulky.

some names that come to mind are:
very baby from the wee wuns.
pookey pockets
kissaluvs size 1 nappies from little koala
and sustainable hemp products have some small hemp nappies and prefolds too.

or maybe just buy more of the GK pockets since you know they work and as a 1 size you'll get more wear out of them than the small fitteds.

hope little josie has some lovely sound sleeps

Thanks Aline,

I actually have a few of Clo's lovely nappies already and (acting on your advice!) have just put one of her hemp/flannel prefolds on Josie, under a ME wrap...she seems very comfortable.

Let's hope she has more comfy sleeps now. Thanks also for recommending those nappies...I'll go and have a look at them.

kind regards,
Nicole

The ABA booklet on breastfeeding and reflux has a few pages about nappies... can't remember what they say right now but do remember it being helpful!

Hi Nicole,

We have used Tots Bots, Bubblebubs with success and I also prefer AIO for him such as Bumgenious and Monkey Doodlez (now he is bigger). With these nappies he has next to no problems with sleeping and very few leaks as well (and he is a medium wetter).

When he was smaller (0-3 months) I used prefolds on him with great success, so can heartily recommend them as well. Pockets dont work for us because as he got bigger they had to be stuffed more and created the big nappy / bum problem all over again.
