Default Am I right to recommend pockets?

A friend of mine is pg and due in November. She wants to use a mix of cloth and disposables and asked me about buying MCN - she is very definite about NOT wanting to use flats (fair enough). Normally, I would tell her to go for fitteds and covers, but the hitch is that she doesn't have a dryer. DD wears mostly fitteds, and we rely on the dryer a lot in wet weather and when going through rough sleeping patches etc.

I thought pockets with foldable inserts would be good for the drying factor. However, the possibility of poosplosions has me doubting. Would a pocket with gussets help? DD has never worn pockets, so I'm not really familiar with them.

I am surprised that this friend is even considering using cloth at all, so I want to recommend something reliable that won't leave her frustrated (drying time etc.). What do you think?

(Sorry mods, wasn't sure where to put this)

Plenty of people use pockets from birth And the poo-plosions wouldnt be any more than in a sposie anyway iykwim. If she'd like a really quick drying fitted, I have heard the Tots Bots Fluffle is pretty quick drying, so that could be something to suggest! If she's going to go the pocket route, than a sized system would be better IMO, as without a cover it is really important to get that perfect fit iykwim.

Has she seen your lovely stash? I just love your sig photo!

I've just started with MCN's with my second bub. I bought a starter's pack with a fitted, pocket and AIO. While I STILL haven't worked out what I like best, the pack gave me something to go on so it was a really good starting point. I personally think pockets are great although I've got some of everything (still experimenting ).

Forgot to add that my bub does HUGE breastfed poos and the pockets haven't leaked yet...

Joh, I did mention prefolds to her - I'm not sure what she thought as the conversation was a little rushed and only over the phone.

Thanks Davina, making fitteds means I've been able to use lots of cute prints. Yes, she's seen them. I'm not sure how important the cute prints are for her, or whether she'd be happy with plainer but cheaper nappies. I was thinking side snap pockets with gussets for fit/containment... ah, so many ideas floating around in my head!

I find side snap pockets tend to leak more than front closure. Not sure why but I've heard a few others mention it too. Personally I'd go for front snap.....

P.S. We used pockets from birth without issue too

I live in Newcastle and don't have a dryer and I used fitteds with covers exclusively until Isabel was about 6 months old and then added some AIOs into the mix.

Isabel was born late November and I had no problem with having the fitteds dry. In summer, they would dry by the end of the day out in the sun.

(Mod hat on.... Moving this to getting started with cloth )

I'm using mostly pockets with my little girl. She's exclusively breastfed, saves up to do one or two MASSIVE, explosive poos every other day and I've not had a leak yet.

Last night, someone else in the house (not mentioning anyone specifically, DH!) put her to bed in a disposable and this-morning we had poo all up her back, over the PJ's and the sheets. YUCK!

I'm a huge fan of the pockets, but have only used them since Josie was 7 weeks old.
