Ok microfleece would be great as the top layer because its your stay dry fabric (if you dont mind sythetic layers). Ofcourse it is not absorbant at all though. The microfibre would be the most absorbant fabric. Im personally not a huge fan of terry cause its thick, not particularly absorbant and doesnt seem to wear very well.
Im assuming these boosters are for newborn nappies? If so, I dont think youll need them particularly absorbant because NB's tend to do small wee's frequently. And overnight, you will be woken very regularly for feeding and changing, so overnight nappies for newborns dont really need to be much more abosorbant than day time ones. Given these are for a newborn, and givent the fabrics you have, I would go 2 layers flannel or terry, 1 layer microfbire, topped with the fleece. If you wanted to make some more absorbant in hope you get a longer stretch at night, maybe add an extra layer of microfibre.
Goodluck

I've got quite a few micro/ polar fleece topped hemp boosters here that I made well over a year ago and I kinda regret making them with four layers of hemp because they take so long to dry. I know hemp isn't one of fabrics you've got on hand, but I just thought I'd suggest not putting tooooo many layers together in each booster - you can always use two boosters if you wanted to or make them extra long and double them over.

As for the fleece topped bit, well it sure has been convenient because it's a liner and booster in one single piece, but now the fleece is looking old and crappy (well not literally ) and I'm thinking about removing it. The fleece hasn't worn as well as the rest of the booster (this is also true of the few boosters I've got here with just terry and polar fleece). IMHO boosters are more versatile without the microfleece on top - you can stuff them in pockets, night nappies etc without having to think about which side up they've got to go. OK so that's not really that big a deal, but nowadays I prefer without fleece. I'm really into the the "stay dry" effect anymore except at night time because I've got a toddler who's developing toilet awareness.

If it were me, I'd make a few boosters of all terry and all microfibre and all flannel and see which one I liked best. I know there'll be heaps to do when the bub arrives, but boosters dont' take long to whip up. (you can always boost with folded up terry face washers until you get around to it) I suspect that the flannel ones probably wont' get as much use as the others, depending on how thick you make them.

Good luck with it!!

Oh and I just thought I'd add that microfibre boosters would be better hidden away from bub's skin - so great inside pockets or use a wide covering microfleece liner over the top of it.

emma..thanks so much, thats got me thinking!!

just do a couple of them up with only a few layers and see what bubs does when she gets here...(she should already be here..i;m 6 days overdue and just filling time.haha) then use them in combinations depending what i like. Thanks for the advice on the liners i was wondering about that coz if they all have fleece tops then i couldn't really layer them too well or use them in pockets...maybe just a few topped with fleece and use a seperate liner?

i might even use some of the flanel for wipes instead of boosters?
