Smile Stash building for an unconceived baby??

As the title suggests

Now that I am not buying much at all for Mia.......it gets me thinking it might be nice to start a little stash for the next bub. (late next year would be the earliest)

I am not sure about buying nappies and having them sit around for that long, I have concerns about the elastic.

Might just start getting some Bamboo flats & start kniting some tiny woolies

Don't worry girls I am not going to be competing for the hyena stuff for a bub that doesn't exist......that would be cruel

What have others done in this case???

You're talking about me too Aimee? (said she who has a lay-by for an unconceived bub)

TBH, I have never thought about having them sit around for long...maybe I should now that you mentioned it

So far I have bought 5 NB nappies (3 of them are second handed) and I just store them in a drawer. I don't think I "need" to buy anything for my next bub as Becky has so many nappies (unless bub is a boy ).

im not sure i understand how new elastic sitting around could deteriorate?? surely some of the mass-produced mcn's imported from the US aren't just made when we buy them anyways iykwim...??they may have been sitting around a while before sold??

couldn't you make your own bamboo flats??you can sew - prefolds would be nice

its just my crazy mind then joh........but your right

I could sew prefolds/flats......but I love the bamboo flats from Jayne

Might start making a few VB small fitted....since my bubs are big there is no way I would need a NB size

Personally, I couldn't do it. I am not that kind of person, and also just can't rally up the confidence that we will be able to have another baby, even though I hope it does happen!

I have started building my newborn stash. I picked up a few things when I found out I was previously pregnant which unfortunatley wasn't meant to be. But I was positive we would get preg again so continued to pick up a few here and there. And I am happy to say we are pregnant again so my stash is going to get a work out.

Plus I have never used mcn on a new born and didn't want to be hit with the set up costs all at once but rather wanted to be able to spread it out over a number of months.

Happy shopping.

I've used my medium itti bitti's since he was about 4kg and they fit well. And I grab them when ever they are dry. I havn't had any leaks but then Simon's breast fed poo's are different to his sister. I seemed to be covered in poo all the time last time (disposibles and flannellete flats) Sorry TMI.
Oh and my sherpies from bubblebubs. But I sewed the soaker into the nappy, actually I did that with my itti bitti's. I got sick of looking for them in the folding and was making my life easier.

I have a newborn stash and we're currently up to TTC for 20 months! It'll happen soon!

I actually sold off a lot of my mcn nb stash earlier in the year for the exact same reason Aimee, although I still have almost enough if a nb was to turn up on my doorstep! LOL! I kept all the flats and prefolds, woolies I've knitted, and nappies from swaps etc. I wash them all every month or two to keep the moisture in and I've been told it 'should' stop any dry rot. I do have a few mcn that I've added since then. When I was making the nappies for Wems I messed up and cut the wrong layers so made two other nappies at the same time, plus one or two others that I had some inspiration and just wanted to make them!

I'm not sure that the elastic really is such a big issue y'know????? I have some clothing here from when Dian was a bub, she's 9 now, and the elastic in that is fine. And I havn't been washing those every month or so, they've just sat in a box! I'm lucky they don't have insect holes in them!

I'd say go for it, if you see something you want then buy it to stash for your next bub, you've got a 95% chance that you'll be pg quickly, it's only about a very small % that it takes a long time. I also don't hyena stuff, it wouldn't feel right! There's probably a lot of stuff that you can start putting away other than nappies too. I've decided that if I get that "I want to sew baby stuff" feeling then I'll concentrate on baby clothing, and put a lot of time into it with smocking and embroidery, rather than something quick like nappies.
