Unhappy new to cloth and have a dilemna needing urgent assistance

hi all, i have an awkward problem in which i need some sound advice!!!
i am new to cloth having used all disposables for my first two children (Aged 2 1/2 and 14 mths).
i am expecting another baby at the start of December.
i have left my job to stay at home with my children and am trying to adjust to a very tight budget, hence why converting to cloth.
i have spent the last 2 months researching cloth on the web and attended some groups meetings to look at the products available, so i am now equipped with some knowledge of the cloth world.
here is my dilemna:
I have a two and a half year old whom shows no interest in toilet training anywhere in the near future. he is very tall and broad and is the size of a 4 y/o. He weighed close to 19kgs, 3 mths ago and only fits one brand of disposables and even those are rubbing on his legs/ hips causing red welts.
Hence my dilemna. after looking at some of the brands and trying a few over his disposables, none of them fit. They barely touch around the waist and nowhere near high enough in the rise. No one had any xlarge for me to try but i'm even hesitant there. I would sew my own, but i cant sew. my mum could sew off something but she lives 4 1/2 hrs away. Standard flats have no hope in hell of fitting (I've Tried)and i could buy material and cut to size, but i still need a cover.
no matter how much i searched the net, no body had any advice on cloth for larger children other than training pants.
i cant afford to buy then try and although i have other children younger than him my other son is the opposite build average height and petite weighing only 9kgs at 14mths. who knows what the next one will be?
i don't want to spend a lot of money if i can only use them on one child.
i only have 3 weeks worth of disposables left and at $35 a box and lasting just under a month i'm desperately looking for some options!
Any advice??????? Please?????
Yours sincerely Munbean

perhaps they would fit without the disposable underneath? Why don't you send the material and a few patterns to your mum to try and make something for him?

I am not sure but don't peapods do an XL and greenkids make pockets larger as a special request (I have only heard this) The other option may be offering a trade for someone to make some larger PUL covers for you or can you knit you could use wool covers?? HTH

ETA- where do you live someone here may be able to offer some help

Hi there!
There have been a couple of threads on older disabled children who might fit the size requirements you have in mind. I don't know enough about searching, but they have been in the last 6months.
I'm pretty sure you would be able to buy something and that someone would swap or sell you a second hand worn out one cheaply to try if you used Buy for Baby. Things seem pretty cheap on there at the moment and there is a Wanted to Buy section.
I think Happy Heiny have big sizes. The pull up PUL pocket I used on my toddler for nights was only a medium and was generous on her (17kg at 2 1/2yrs). It was roomy enough to stuff with lots of trifolds eg hemp or bamboo and microfibre.
There has to be an answer without spending too much money - I understand tight budgets.
hope you get some leads,

Maybe you could look at this site and send some info to your mum http://fernandfaerie.com/frugaldiapering.html

Hunter is roughly the same size, and fits perfectly into most XL nappies.
He is 104cm and 19 kilos.
XL Bubblebubs would be your best fit for AIO's (actually, he fits larges in these) and XL Fuzzibunz for pockets.

There's a little bit on larger nappies here: http://www.ozclothnappies.org/info#largernappies

I'd also have a chat to Janie at the Weewuns, altho I'm sure that Darlings Downunder and Jayne at Nurture Nappies should also be able to help. I suggest these stores because they sell a range of brands and will have come across this situation before

With the terry square, what kinds of folds have you tried? I've not tried it myself, but I've heard of someone on another nappy list testing out the batwing/ origami fold on her compliant seven year old and getting it to fit...

I'm happy to modify a pattern for you to try... that you could pass on to your Mum?
that would still make for v effective nappying - esp if the larger ones made to fit your eldest, have the fold down rise they could still be used in a few months on your youngest (dep on size/weight etc)

Hi! My 4yo is the size of a 6yo at 25kg so I understand your dilemma (she's been day-trained for ages, but still needs night nappies).
I recommend XL Fuzzibunz (Emma outgrew those a few kilos ago but they used to fit her well). Happy Heinys also do an XL. Peapods are an affordable option, but the XL of those just didn't fit well on Emma - they FIT, but they hung down a bit.
Bubblebubs are also a large make of nappy, if you take his measurements (waist, rise, thighs) and email Vicki at Bubblebubs I'm sure she could advise if he'd fit a large (which are readily available) or whether she can do an XL for you.
Back when I first switched to cloth when Emma was 3 and about 19kg, the Very Baby XL fleece covers fitted her nicely too (there is one of these in stock at The Weewuns, and they also carry Happy Heinys so you could get a couple of things and save on postage).
The Weewuns also have Snappi Nappys in X-Large for $10. They'd probably require boosting, and I haven't tried them myself, but boosters are easy to get hold of and not size-specific, and for $10 it's worth a try.
