Default pockets...AI2...??

ok another question..i;m full of them!!!

i'm going to make my first pocket nappy...

i want to make it so i don't need a cover, so i was thinking of 2 outer layers of polar fleece and the inner of microfleece? what do you think. or would i only need 1 layer polar outer and 1 layer polar inner?

Also i was thinking of leaving the front open for stuffing rather then the back, as the back seems fiddly with having to put elastic on both the back oening bits...sorry that was badly explained.

Also do you have to make a pocket slightly larger then a fitted nappy for the stuffing to fit?? as i usually use the wee weka pattern?

thanks for any advice you can give me...i've got the fitteds down but know want to try something different..

Definitely two layer polar outer, as one won't do the trick unless it's super-dense maiden mills fleece. Microfleece is best for inner. There are front opening pockets around but the one I have is narrow at the front making it awkward to stuff. Not sure about sizing as I've never made one myself but probably go with larger? HTH

As Akiko said, unless youre using MM fleece, you'll def need 2 outer. But you dont have to make both side of a back opening pocket elasticised if you dont want to - just like you could do it either way with a front opening. I like back openings better cause I find that the back isnt usually as dirty to pull out as the front, but thats just personal preference. I have used fitteds patterns for pockets and just used the same size - I dont see any reason at all why youd need to make it bigger - the fleece stretches to fit the stuffing so thats not an issue. Hope that helps.

I have made pockets with Spoltlight fleece using the Wee Weka pattern and I just used it as is, not any larger. You can also sew a long rectangle of fleece in the wet zone rather than doing two full layers of polar on the outer layer this will cut down on the bulk factor. If you are using TT it is much easier to sew this to the outer layer first than afterwards ( just a tip incase it is your first go )
