Hi,
I'm planning to use cloth but am not sure if I am able to use cloth for newborn as I'm overseas and having family bring them over for me (so limited space). I'm planning to purchase the normal size ones from BabyBeehind etc.. Anyways I was wondering on average how long a newborn uses newborn sizes before they can use the normal sizes of other nappies? If it's a long time I might get the newborn stash now and then get the normal sizes later. I'm thinking my baby will be 'average' size going by our families in the past. Also what are the best nappies for newborns? I've noticed people mention prefolds a lot in the newborn section in their stash. From my reading I'm guessing AIO aren't the best for newborns? One more question - how many nappies are good for a newborn - assuming a wash every day or two. As I'm overseas I can't really try different brands out (it's also my first baby so no previous experience) so will just have to go by recommendations on here Thankyou! |

my 6 and a half month old still fits in newborn nappies...
(he doesn't wear them though cause he out wees them really fast)so it really does depend a lot on the baby and the type of nappy. some newborn nappies (like kissaluvs size 0) are really very stretchy and adjustable so will fit average babies for longer than a general newborn fitted.... a lot of nappies don't come in newborn size, and just start at small, and these smalls will generally be a bit larger than a design that includes a newborn size, and so will fit a lot of chubbier newborns quite quickly iykwim.

like lis my 8 1/2 month old son still fits in newborn nappies (for that matter my 2 3/4 yr old daughter can still fit in some of them lol) but he wees through them really quickly. they were good absorbancy wise unrtil he was about 5 months old.
i used prefolds on him a lot until he was about 6 months old but only at home. they are quick to put on ( i was pad folding them) and stains washed out easy. now i use them to stuff my pocket nappies.i think there is a post on prefoldsa and how to use them in the Other Nappies & Accessories section as for one size nappies i found they were not a good fit on DS until he was maybe 5-6 months old. but he was small and skinny so ther legs gaped and i dont like bulky nappies on my tiny babies.

Turando, I loved my prefolds. I think they fit River til...dunno...3 months? Maybe more, maybe less...
Tots bots I also liked, more the fluffles and bamboozles than cottons, since they were trimmer, I liked the cottons later though. And River fit his BumGenius one size pocket pretty much straight away, fit great around the legs. You can't buy cloth nappies where you are? Many online sites do international shipping...
