Default Prefolds/Flats/Foldups

Hi,

I was wondering if someone could tell me what the difference between the 3 is?

I'm wanting to get a bunch for a newborn but can't really make sense which one is which and what they are best for. I was interested in the Bummis cotton ones and the BabyBeeHinds Bamboo Foldups.

Thankyou!

I guess this is a really simple definition:

Flats are generally bigger than prefolds and foldups. You can fold a flat into a nappy (kite fold etc) and pin/snappi and then put on a cover if you like. These are your traditional flat nappy.

Prefolds are generally smaller and can also come in different sizes. You can get prefolds large enough for a smaller baby so that you only have minimal folding before pinning/snappi-ing and it provides more absorbency than a flat because it has an extra layer/s sewn in.

A foldup is generally just a couple of layers of material that you fold into 3 (or however you want) then you place in nappy to provide extra absorbency.

This is a basic explanation and you may find the nappy dictionary explains it better than I can...

hi turando! we'd love a quick intro in our 'getting to know you' section

i will add;

prefolds are like 3 panels, with the middle panel being thicker/more absorbent as it has more material already folded sewn there...you can pin/snappi them on like flats (but less folding) or just fold them in 3 and lay them in a cover).

foldups are also used to boost fitted nappies, its like a booster you fold or you 'pad' fold them in 3rds to lay in a cover for a NB)
