i am having some issues with my son's longies. they work great - no wetness at all, but they lately they stink after each wear. when i started using them i could go ages without having to wash or re-lanolise.
can anyone give me ideas as to why this may be or what i can do to fix it? i'm thinking of ditching wool altogether cos they are just too hard to wash that often when i can't just chuck them in with the normal washing. ![]() thanks in advance.

I am using a wool wash (not wool mix but i can't remember the name - must go check). I think they are rinsed thoroughly but I guess i will double/triple/quadruple rinse them next time to be sure.
![]() they do still smell after airing. i can't stand to use them a second time at the moment. it's really putrid.

i have just relanolised them
![]() i used to be able to go quite a while between doing it, but this is wash, lanolise, wear once, stink to high heaven. the wool wash is "maaas".

yep, it is the eucalyptus one. i only use a little bit - no idea how much that is in actual measurement
well i guess i'm going to wash them again tomorrow, rinse them 30 times , lanolise them, dry them again and see how it goes.does it matter if i stick them straight in to soak in the lanolin solution while they are wet from being washed? can't see how it would cos i've always done that though. hmmm. i'm not doing anything differently than i used to so it's strange. i guess extra rinsing and more/less detergent are the only things i can change.

um...also could try..
air them outside for longer? use a nice smelling spray lanolin? ![]() ![]() boost the nappy more so the wool stays 'dry'/smell free? ( a good lazy trick if you cbf washing too often lol!)

are you meant to wash and lanolise in two separate stages? i've been doing it all at the same time, is that ok?
(I was told to put a pea size bit of lanolin and a swish of wool mix, in a jar, add boiling water, put lid on, shake it so all dissolves, and add jar contents to bucket of tepid water. Then add woolly and swish about, leave two hours - overnight. Rinse and dry.) Oh, and i do this to the woollies when they're inside out. the woollies are acting waterproof, no leaks. so glad i started using woollies (at last!!)

Make sure you rinse them before you wash them if they are stinky. And scented stuff with toddler wee can make them STENCH. I wash in warm clean water first and get all the yucky out - amazing how much yucky there is, then wool wash and then a lanolin bath (literally in my bath I do a BIG batch of woolies when I do them - my own that is).
And make sure that you squeeze as much of the wool wash out as possible, sometimes, the build up of wool wash + lanolin + wee can be horrific |
