Default Are they suppose to stink?

Hi i've been using flat nappies occasionally when bubby has nappy rash for awhile but just started using MCN yesterday. I cant help but noticed the smell coming from the hemp nappies are SHOCKING! They are 2nd hand but when they are dry they smell fine only when they are wet, the smell is so bad i almost puke.

Am i doing something wrong or the hemp nappies are supposed to smell like that?

yep, I know that smell well I am having those issues with all our hemp nappies at the moment and it's so bad that DH refuses to use them! I am about to try a few hot washes in a row followed by a full day in the sun to see if that fixes them...

Someone mentioned to me about using bi-carb and vinegar in the machine? does anyone recommend this?

I just cold rinse, then soak overnight in hot with a bit of borax thrown in - dry in sun the next day.

Fixes it everytime.

Cheers

Yes I've tried the bicarb/vinegar, and it really didn't work all that well. I also did a hot (95 Degree) wash and sun (no detergent), and my nappies are like new.

A hot wash does help, but you shouldn't need to do it every time. I think you may have a build up on them so I would give the a couple of washes with no detergent. And when you dry them, make sure they get a good amount of time to flap in the breeze - I find the dryer can make the smell worse. And to keep the nappy bucket smell at bay, put a few drops of your favourite essential oil on a rag in the bottom of the bucket. But yes, when my DD wets her nappy, my mum is always the first to point out that she smells 'hempy'... I guess I'm just used to it
