Using a folded terry square not done up (if bub is laying down) would be much quicker than a full nappy change. We do have a culture that thinks it is ok for babies to wear a urine soaked nappy (me included bc).

She has my sympathies - I found the hardest part about being a new mum was how susceptible I was to advice.
My son also didn't like to be wet and we used disposables when out and cloth at home. From memory it didn't make a difference. Do you think it would help your friend to know that the time between wees gets longer as they get older? Their bladders are very, very small at this age (as are their stomachs which is why very few bubs are able to wait for their next feed). This is a very temporary problem (not to diminish it) however the disappointment you feel when you haven't followed your own heart and perservered with your own parenting wishes tends to stick with you (sigh - from personal experience). As for the clinic nurse - she has only a few minutes to try and find a solution for a mum who has presented her with a problem. I doubt she advises everyone to switch nappies but she has been trying to find a solution for a tired mum who is finding nappies to be yet another difficulty. Unfortunately it takes way longer to reassure a mum than to give a quick fix. The best advice I ever got about clinics is that 'other people may be baby experts but you are the only expert on your baby' (feel free to insert the name of your child here) ![]() Best of luck, Shann |

good on her for continuing to demand feed!
For the CHN to recommend 3 hourly feeds to reduce the nappy output is not on. If your friend is using fleece liners, then unless they're repelling, disposables won't make a difference like Quote:
Does she get upset when she pees with nothing on, it may be the actual pee-ing that's uncomfortable - has anything like UTI been ruled out? (dunno just a thought if it's hurting to pee perhaps?)

Have to thank Lisel for posting on my behalf! I've finally made it on to my computer! Zoe apparently has lactose overload from a combo of my mega milk supply and her tiny tummy - she's not making it through to the fattier 'hind' milk and is just getting feeds of the 'fore' milk - which is low in fat and tends to go straight through her, giving her horrible tummy pains.
The MCHN suggested she should be feeding every three hours so she would be hungrier and feed more - but I don't understand this as her tummy is very small and she can only fit so much in it, regardless of how long between feeds. So I have decided to ignore this advice. As Lisel said - Zoe can't bear to be in a wet nappy, and I don't blame her at all - I think the amount of wee is due to the low fat milk whizzing through her system - so it's wet pretty frequently. I have 25 mcn nappies as well as prefolds and if I don't wash and dry them every day (ie if it rains) we have to head down to the coin laundry. Anyway, my point is that I'm hoping not to have to use disposables at night - doubt it would make much difference anyway - except that she might sleep a little longer. A lactation consultant yesterday suggested we try her with a dummy. Did that tonight and it was a total disaster. She hated it, I persevered, she ended up gagging and throwing up her WHOLE feed. (sob) The dummy was supposed to pacify her when she's having her tummy pains... Thanks for all your responses. I will keep the plastic off her bum, and just hope that things settle with the feeding over the next week or two. The lactation consultant suggested keeping her on the one boob whenever she wanted feeding in a three hour period and then swapping. I am also offering it to her a few times after she has taken herself off and appears to be 'finished'. This is what happens when you start to get smug and think you have it all figured out Am going to read up on ECing when my brain returns to some kind of functioning...

Only thing to watch then is engorgement/lump/mastitis on the 'fuller side' although it will get drained eventually when it has it's 'turn' but I'm sure the lactation consultant would have mentioned that one. & hello, welcome, and Congratulations on your littlest Bundle!

Welcome!
I hope it works out for you, Sorry I gave away all my small nappies otherwise i would send them onto you. One of my favourites is using a Ai2 nappy ie itti bitti and just changing the inner pads , cause i find it really cuts down on the washing, and if your changing it often, it really doesn't matter if they wear the outer twice, so long as it isn't pooped on. I know it probably doesn't help since you already have a reasonable stash. We didn't go down the EC path here, but i did find nappy free time with canningvale flats were great, I even used towels at one stage when i was to "busy" to wash. best of luck!
