I am definately no expert but I thought....and someone please correct me if I am wrong...

I thought it takes a while for your boobies to settle down and produce the right amount of milk for your baby. So I would think that the foremilk issue would be something most new mothers would encounter?

I always remember the advice to "drain one side before offering the next" so the other girls advice to continue feeding on that side seems like a plan.

Good luck with it

yes, it can take a while for the breasts to settle down into a good supply=demand routine, but some people have a much more prolific oversupply than others!! Many mothers encounter the 'foremilk' issue, but there are varying degrees! (been there done that!)
The reasoning behind continuing to offer the same breast is that the amount of fat content in the milk (previously known as foremilk/hindmilk) depends on how empty the breast is. The emptier the breast, the more fat content in the milk, and higher fat content means that bub doesn't have to drink as much to feel full. With a big oversupply, bub is having to consume large volumes of milk to satisfy their needs, the less fatty milk passes through their system more quickly, which in turn means they need to feed more often, which turns into a big spiral! So more fat content in the milk slows down the digestion process, means bub feels satisfied for longer, and won't pee quite so much because they're not having to cope with huge volumes of milk. (it's slightly more complicated than that, but I won't bore you all with the details unless you want them!)
Feeding from the one breast for a 3-4hr period of time also reduces the overall amount of stimulation given to each breast, so will help to reduce the oversupply more quickly.
sorry this turned into such a long ramble!!

Michael and i have had the same issue here. He's had the green poos too ( which aren't always from too much foremilk)
I was VERY reluctant to give him a dummy, none of my other babies have had one. But in the end gave in as he was feeding for 2 hours at a time and would cry when I'd try to remove him from the breast.
He's very windy too, the kids love his baby farts and burps
He did take the dummy. I only give it to him when he's been feeding AGES. And it does seem to soothe him.

Michael has 2 to 3 hours between feeds in the day and will sleep 5 hours between feeds at night.

He's 7 weeks now and I'm still getting engorged in the mornings. The poos are now more yellow. And I'm changing 10 to 15 nappies a day. The morning ones are soaked.
and he's putting on lots 330gms in a week!
