Default Do I need to use a Snappi with prefolds?

Hello Ladies

I have been using cotton prefolds with my then-newborn, without a snappi, just pad-folded or angel-folded inside a good-quality well-fitting PUL cover. This has worked really well

Now I want to make some prefolds myself, from bamboo fleece (see my thread on the sewing board) - its been pointed out to me that bamboo fleece isn't snappible (as opposed to bambo terry which is).

As my DD gets bigger and more active like rolling and crawling (currently just on 5 months old and not yet rolling) will the prefolds need to be snappied to stay in place inside the cover? Do I *need* them to be snappible?

I was planning on using the bamboo prefolds just pad-folded or angel-folded inside a good-quality well-fitting PUL cover when at home - this is to compliment my stash of fitteds which I use when out (also I need more nappies with winter coming up and drying time is an issue).

Many thanks
Lou

if you are happy to use them unsnappied the cover will still hold them in place
if you did change your mind you can always sew on snappiable material where its needed

LG - i think any prefold/trifold whatever, is fine in a cover, no snappi AS LONG as it's a snug fitting cover, preferably with leg gussets, as those covers are made for accomodating prefolds.

as for snapping bamboo fleece, yes it's very hard to snappi the SMOOTH side of bamboo fleece, but i've snappied the FLUFFY side of bamboo fleece no problems.

if drying time is an issue, i find the hemp trifolds dry faster (we have a mixture). so i alternate them. the bamboo seems to be thirstier but the hemp dries quicker. So i'll use the bamboo in the car and the hemp while we're out. But if you have stacks of bamboo trifolds, this may not matter. Just thought i'd mention it, cos you mentioned the drying time factor.

I'd say if you've made it to 5 months without snappi-ing you'll be fine. Its more neccesary in the early pooplosion days imo. But make sure your covers are always well fitting.
