If you have a minky wild child in one hand and a huggies in the other.

How can you not fall in love with the minky?

then its a simple matter of doing the maths

When I started out in cloth I bought 5 mcn and had 12 terry's. I washed everyday but everyweek I wasn't spending $25 on disposables I got to spend the equivilant on mcn!

I showed DH the price of the sposies we are weaning off of and that was enough to get the next decent payout (like tax cheque) to buy as many cloth as possible. using the 1 i have as often as it is dry enough.

The "cost" factor which swayed my DH was the environmental impact. He was amazed disposables will be in landfill anywhere from 75 - 300 years. He enjoys shopping now as we avoid the baby aisle all together which saves us heaps.

Consider cloth wipes too, they will save your budget big time. We worked out we were going through about a pack of huggies a week with two babes in nappies. I found it annoying doing cloth, yet having disposable wipes. Now we just put both nappy and cloth into the bucket and they wash together. Very easy to make, yet also cheap to buy. We just got 15 for about $15 from Bubblebubs and they're heaps better than the ones I made.

Enjoy your cloth journey, make a plan, and in no time you will see the benefits. We wish we had have known about MCN from the beginning.

A pretty simple calculation I use to justify the average price of an MCN:

One disposable - 50c x 1 use
One MCN - $25 x 1000s of uses

One cloth nappy will pay itself off in approximately 50 uses. Wash every second day and your nappy's paid off in a couple of months. If you use disposables, they're NEVER paid off.

I just told dh that instead of spending $30 or so a week on nappies and wipes, I spent that for a couple of months on mcn's then saved us about $1000 for the next 12 months that we used them for!

We didnt start using them till she was about 9 months too, so even still it saved us alot of money, and that $30 a week makes a big difference!

Make him smell the bin after a week of using sposies and the bin being out in the hot sun.
That will soon make him change his mind.
I like all of the other suggestions that have been made too.
