I'm not sure of the sizing on BB but I would check because my DD is 4 months old and already fits the medium BB. Maybe you might want to get half newborn and half small size? Or is a small BB a newborn one?
In any case 18 would prob be ok if you are washing every day or so. Although newborns poo A LOT!! They do take longer to dry being AIO's so bear that in mind. I guess you can throw them in the dryer if desperate but I personally don't like to use the dryer too often

In terms of leak protection, you will find that a fitted nappy and a cover will offer better protection than an AIO because essentially with the two lots of leg elastic you have two barriers against leaks. I'm not sure how long a newborn AIO would fit for TBH, I guess it really depends on the individual growing rate of the baby and the size they were at birth. I actually don't think 18 nappies is enough for a newborn; it's possible to go through nearly that many in a day

Can you sew? I'd be buying up some flanelette and sewing up a whole lot of fitted nappies, they are so easy to make and really really cheap. I made lots of little ones for around $2 each, that included the cost of the swimmers elastic and velcro. At that price you can have 3 dozen easily which is really what you need with a newborn.

I don't really think it's worth buying the newborn BBs unless you are expecting a teeny tiny baby. My DS was 6lb12oz and fit into the smalls, but I bought 2 nb ones as well and he's almost outgrown them already at 6 weeks.

IMO 18 is no where near enough..........you could use them and more in one day then what do you use the next day when they are in the wash and what if they don't dry etc etc
I own 1 NB nappy all the rest are smalls and they fit Miss Abby fine she was 8lb 3oz and when i had Coby I only had smalls and OSFM and he was 7lb 1oz I would definately be getting more of something

did you use newborn AIO on your other two children? (when they were born)?
nb aio's are gorgeous, but i wouldn't buy more than one, until i knew that it fit my bub and did what i needed (passed Pootainment Duty). If that all went well, THEN i would go buy more. BB coudl stand for baby beehinds or bubblebubs - these stores are stocked well most of the time, so i woudln't worry about not being able to buy some in a hurry, if needed. i didn't buy AIO's for my nb, i coudln't justify the expense, so we instead bought prefolds, nb fitteds and nb cover with leg gussets - the two lines of defense worked great. (I also had some bamboo flats, but i flopped big time at folding nappies.) we found achieving "leg seal" very difficult on our nb's little chicken legs - when using PUL pockets and AIO's. But we could achieve leg seal with prefolds and covers, fitteds and covers. And some malden mills pockets that had rolled out fleece around the leg holes. in just a a few months, the chicken legs turned into chubba bubba legs, so it didn't take long to change!! |

Flats & prefolds would be my choice because they dry so quickly & you can adjust the folds accordingly. I would get some small/medium fitteds for added cuteness too though
