Default How many nappies for a newborn?

I converted to cloth when DS was about 6 months old, so I haven't any experience with a newborn in cloth.

So how many nappies does everyone recommend for a newborn? I wash everyday, but sometimes they take two days to dry.

Help .... please!

Becky wasn't NEW new when I started her in cloth full time, but she was still pretty tiny. My favourites for her were fleece Pookey Pockets that Bek made, with a shaped bamboo booster that I made myself (from a pattern you'd be pretty familiar with ) The fleece kept her bum dry and the bamboo worked well, though topping it with micro fibre might be the way to go too.

I was also surprised at how early the BBB fitted her too! I used PUL covers then, but that was before I discovered those great fleecy ones.

Considering your baby girl will be born in Spring, it may only take a day to dry especially in Brissy. I'd say 30 nappies? But as a precaution (who knows what the weather is truly going to be like & no one can predict how often nb can wee and poo ), I'd say 30+ nappies. I'd also have some prefolds & flats as a backup in case you won't have time to wash as often as you want, they dry so quickly and are very versatile.

Funnily enough when I used cloths with my 1st bub when she's a newborn, I could get away with just 24 of them. I washed everyday though and if they didn't dry quickly enough, I just put them in a dryer for a quick run. Maybe my girl didn't wee or poo a lot I don't remember

Heaps

I found that we went through at least 10 a day in the first few weeks (often more)......washing every second day (I have 2 in cloth FT so plenty for a load) 30 nappies was enough. This included some NB/small fitteds, prefolds, flats and onesize nappies.

Ari is now 11 weeks old and we probably use about 8 nappies a day and 1 night nappy (he sleeps all night so we don't change).

Depending on you bubs likely size I wouldn't go overboard with NB size, they are great to have though when they are fresh . I found smalls a great fit on Ari (4080g born) and he grew so fast my NB nappies were soon left behind in favor of smalls/OSFM and better absorbency.

I tend to have 4kg+ babies ... so might leave the newborns for now.
