Default Doing it with twins

DD is 11mths and is in full-time cloth (except when I get lazy ) and a friend has asked me to make her nappies for her twins when they arrive. She is only 13wks preg now, so I have heaps of time, but I was wondering how many she will need. I have around 30ish, so does that mean she will need 60 or do you think will she get by with less?

TIA

there are quite a few twin mama's here, they hopefully will be along soon
usually with twins they recommend 1 and 1/2 a stash, so maybe more like 45???

Hi there! I have 8 month old twins who are in cloth full time. I will get back to you tomorrow when I have more time!

Also, will they be OSFM or sized nappies? Fitted or AIOs?

Would it depend on how often she plans to wash?
I've only had one bub at a time in nappies, but I can get by quite easily with 30 nappies washing every second day. Perhaps if she washes every day she'll get by with fewer?
Look forward to hearing what the twin mums have to say

I'd err on the side of too many - for her ease in terms of not stressing about washing etc
If you can't make that many in terms of time and fabric, then add to her 'stash' with some prefolds or little flats (which she can later use as boosters)
also think about whether they'll be sized or one size fits most (OSFM)
Plenty of Mums with Twins here who I'm sure will be happy to share

Congratulations to your friend! I have a friend who just found out she is having twins and is 13 weeks too!

I'm busily getting my stash together for my twins. I have added to my little boy's stash by getting some in swaps and have also been doing lots of sewing!!! I think I have probably gone a little over the top as I will have approx 30 NB fitteds, 26 infant prefolds, 12 NB covers, and 20 NB AIOs. Then in small 40 snappiable fitteds (an assortment of homemade terry towelling outers and Sherpies and Bambams from Bubblebubs), 15 normal fitteds, 8 covers and 20 AIOs. Then maybe a dozen OSFM fitteds half that Ollie still uses too. This is the first time I have worked it out and OMGosh I have a lot of nappies but at least I've used up a lot of the material I had been collecting over the past 2.5 years! LOL

I am expecting the girls to be on the smaller side which is why I have decided to go with lots of NBs aswell as smalls and it is only going to be early Spring in Melbourne so drying time may be in issue (and if they are anything like their brother they'll be pooing every feed, sometimes more than once). Being summer babies your friend might not have to worry about drying time as much.

I think the snappiable fitteds are going to be fantastic as they'll give a nice close fit and the rise can be folded down at the front to make it a little smaller if it's too big on the babies. If I didn't enjoy sewing so much I probably would have just made these to see me through the NB and smalls stage and not worried about having both sizes and gone with more prefolds but I can't help myself! hehe

Of course I haven't tried out the stash yet to know how good it is but I'm happy to let you know in about 10 weeks time when they arrive

wow Emily- that is one almighty stash!

I would be doing prefolds and flats with bamboo boosters in them in the early days coz they will grow so quick and there will be a lot of washing. Regardless of whether its daily washing or not there will be alot of nappies to fold and put together.

maybe make them with sewn in boosters so that there is less things to put together.

Thank you everyone, you have given me a much clearer idea of how many she will need.

I will be making a combination of fitteds and pockets in osfm and in sized (probably about half of each). She has said she won't use flats or prefolds and will only use disposables for the first 6 wks and will then switch to cloth when she is settled in at home and feeling better after her caesar.

So I think I'll start with a few of each and use them when I go over to help her out in the early days and aim to have around 30 to 40 in osfm and small for the 6 wk mark and see how she goes. If she sticks to using them then I'll make her some more osfm and mediums, and then some larges to pad out the stash.
