Red face Silly question but I need to know

Hi everyone

I am new to cloth and have managed to find a lot of my questions answered by going through all the old posts. But here is one I can't find the answer to:

If you are using a fitted and put a soaker, shorties or longies on over the top for night time use, what else do you dress your baby in?? Or do you just use a wool cover for night time use and the others during the day??

TIA

No silly questions here
When we use woolies at night time (longies in Winter and shorties in Summer) I just add a PJ top in keeping with the weather. It's not usually the most coordinated look but he's only off to bed

It depends on the age of your child. Like what Donna said just a pj top if they aren't swaddled. However, with my 5 month old I still swaddle him so we use baby beehinds wool or PUL covers. I have found out (once never did it again) if you swaddle babies with longies on they can't evaporate so wet through.

Just a long sleeve top or a PJ top with longies in winter and a t-shirt in summer.

We don't actually own normal pjamams

Clementine sleeps in a grobag for all her sleeps day and night so should I get a few wool covers for night time use or can I use the longies and soakers that I have here?? I didn't know about the evaporation aspect.

Learning about MCN's is like a science

I pop some longies over my night time fitted and pop Simon into his grobag. Especially when its as cold as it is at the moment.

for us:

WINTER BEDTIME LOOK

option A -
long sleeve spencer (instead of pj top)
fitted night nappy
longies
loose 100% cotton sleeping bag

option B
long sleeve spencer
fitted night nappy
malden mills fleece cover
baby leg warmers
loose 100% cotton sleeping bag

she sleeps on a flanelette sheet with a sheepskin rug under that.

have not had one leak.

What we do, is not set in stone, it's what we evolved into doing, based on reading useful threads on nappy forums like this, and it works for us.

i remember in the beginning finding it strange not to put pj's on her, esp the bottoms, but now, i don't even think about it.

it's like when you change to MCN, you buy different sized trousers for your bub (to allow for the cloth bot) - bit of a mind shift - but you quickly get used to it, adapt. Harder to get relatives who buy your kid clothes to adjust! i just say, buy BIGGER than needed. But have totally stopped buying pj's.

ALso a word on onesies, i would not put a CLOSEFITTING onesie over a pair of longies. Some people do and it's fine, i personally would not tempt fate (or a compression leak).

Every single person who begins to research MCN has these same questions, so honestly, don't feel silly - it's fine - we've all been there wondering the same thing at some time or antoher.

Have you read the link WHY WOOL on the homepage of Nappycino? that explains things really well.

not a silly question - i had the same question
i hated the thought of buying pj's and only using the tops
we have plain long sleeve tops with longies in winter
and singlets with shorties or soaker in summer
we pretty much stopped using onesies and bodysuits etc when we started using wool

we still get a little chilly most nights in summer here so I needed to keep DS back covered so he was in soakers and a bonds suit or cotton suit (short sleeved sometimes), I just had to size up so the suit did not put too much pressure on the soaker to make it leak. Sometimes it did but was only a patch and not all over.

By the end of summer I made him a nice thin cotton sleeping bag (one with sleeves) so he slept in night nappy shorties/soaker + singlet/tshirt + socks + sleeping bag.

Winter is (we get minus temps here at night):
singlet
long sleeve thermal
jumper
night nappy
think longies
socks
polar fleece sleeping bag

Thanks for your help everyone. It is much appreciated.

I have already noticed about the going up a size with a cloth bum, even though we are using trim MCN's. That just gave me an opportunity to go shopping though
