Ok, just over a week to go until I'm in hospital to meet my baby girl. And so, of course, I'm going in to panic mode. Do I have everything I need? I thought I was sure, but these doubts keep creeping in.... So here I am, posting up my stash for your perusal, opinions and suggestions.
This is what I have: Flats 30 Infant size prefolds (obviously these are going to be our main nappy starting out) 1 x Kissaluvs contour Covers 3 x Bummis superbrites - NB 2 x Bummis super whisper wraps - NB 1 x Tots Bots size 0 3 x Baby Beehinds - small 1 x Bummis SWW - small 3 x Thirsties - small 1 x snazzipants fleece - NB 1 x sugar peas fleece - small Fitteds 1 x Tots Bots Bamboozle - size 1 2 x Tots Bots Organic Cotton - size 1 1 x Snazzipants - size 1 1 x Mandy Mac OSFA 1 x Baby Beehinds Bamboo OSFA Pockets/AIO 1 x Imse Vimse Organic cotton - small 1 x Baby BeeHinds Magicall - small 1 x Monkey Doodlez Micro - small 1 x Bitti D'lish - small 1 x BumGenius 3.0 OSFM Extra bits and pieces 24 x cloth wipes 2 x nappy buckets (secure lids) 1 x Little Squirt (yet to be installed) 4 x snappis 5 x microfleece liners 1 pack of flushable liiners Phew! Ok, I think that's everything we have. Looking at that, I'm guessing we'll need more cloth wipes, and I know I need more microfleece liners. I'm waiting to get to Spotlight to get some I can cut up. So what do we think? What else do I need, anything? More fleece covers maybe? I only have one in each size... My OB checked yesterday, and bub looks like being around 3kg at birth (which is Saturday week, so it's fairly safe to guess I'd say...) I want to be absolutely prepared so that everything goes smoothly... I'm having a caesar, so DH and MIL will probably be having to do some of the work when we get home. So I want no problems, and no reasons for them to go to the shops and buy sposies! |

Not long now!

You sound very organised. You have heaps of prefolds and more than enough covers, so that is the basics covered.
I didnt find microfleece lines helpful for a newborn as the poo just went everywhere regardless so they were just another thing to worry about. But I know some people find them good. Because you are changing a newborn sooo often the dampness isnt such an issue. Good for nappy rash though and I used when DD was older. For wipes, I bought cheap cotton facewashers in bright colours from the baby section of Big W and these worked great. They come in a 6 pack I think and have lasted really well. I wouldnt bother getting more fleece covers yet. Some people find they arent great on newborns as they wick. Some people only use at night, so 1 will do. If you find you love something you can get more later. No need to panic! And a few disposables in the first weeks isnt a big deal so please dont feel guilty if you need to use them. Good luck Shara |

Stuff to buy:
You are really well prepared. but i think a wetbag would be useful, even if you are not feeling like going anywhere, there can be unavoidable hospy appointments etc, where you need somewhere to store the frequent nappy changes. the baby beehinds wetbags are a great size for newborn needs. The only other thing i can think of is newborn sized boosters, only place i see those for sale is at sustainable hemp products, i found those really useful when the wee output starts to increase. DH and MIL helping: Some instructions left for them in appropriate places Washing machine/laundry room I would print out or type out how i want the MCN washed. THere are COUNTLESS stories online of well meaning relatives messing up the MCN by washing it incorrectly. So you could avoid that by spelling it out. e.g
Wherever the nappies are kept, well, one idea is to group them and label them. e.g a basket of prefolds next to a basket of covers e.g a basket of pockets and aio's "these do not need covers" label on that basket to run thru "how to put a prefold and cover on baby" session with dh and MIL, using a teddybear, might be helpful too. Remember to pre-stretch teh snappis (like wearing them in). Making MCN C-section friendly: i had an very long recovery period and this is what we did so i could manage RAISE anything on the floor e.g we put a box under the nappy bucket in the loo room kept spare loo paper hanging up on the loo door in the laundry, we put a long sturdy wooden bench in there, to raise the washer and dryer. in the nursery, all the MCN supplies were stored at waist or near waist height so i didn't have to bend or reach. i didn't do any handwashing for first few months You will have your own home circumstances, your own requirements, but these are just a few things to think about. All the best Mrs Vella, i am excited FOR you!!!
