Hi Everyone,
I have a premie baby who is nearly 6mth (3+ months correct) and who only just hit 4kg. So, he is small. I've been using cloth during the day since he hit 3kg (which was nearly 2 mths ago) and I'm so over using disposables during the night. He is an extremely heavy wetter (like 2 solid huggies disposables every night) and every morning (around 7am) he does these enormous poos which leak every where with the disposables and I've never had a leakage problem with my cloth nappies. My question is... what should I use at night. I have a wide variety of nappies, but a lot don't fit him yet. I've been eyeing of night nappies to buy, but they are too big for him at this stage. At the moment the only nappies that seem to fit him are my: bubblebubs, safari's, berryplush, bumgenius (AIO - which I hate), itti bitti's (but these seem to be saturated in no time with him), blueberry minky pockets (but these seem huge as well even on the small setting) and some home made nappies I've got quite a few fitted nappies in my cupboard, but they are way to big (even my gorgeous blueberry fitted diaper OSFA). I also have a few PUL covers, but they swim on him. I do have a small blueberry PUL cover which would probably fit him, but I don't have anything to go under it ![]() I also have a heap of material, so I could make something, if I knew what to make. HELP!! Anyone have any ideas? |

hmmm, there are no specific night nappies for that weight range I dont think??
Is he having a feed during the night? you may just have to use 2 good absorbant nappies a night. So maybe a OSFM fitted? bamboo delights form cute tooshies or babybeehinds bamboo Remember night time nappies do look huge compared to day time. With a fitted nappy you can also boost on the outside of the nappy, between the nappy and the cover.

Yeah, he is still eating every 3-4 hours at night. Which I don't mind, since I really need him to grow.
Thanks for the advice. I didn't think of padding between the cover and the fitted nappy. My DH will kill me, but I might have to go purchase a few more nappies and covers. Last edited by pixie323; 29-08-2008 at 01:12 PM. |

...you can try wool as a cover too as it doesnt need to be a tight fit like PUL. I love my bear bottoms fleece cover too (nurture nappies). Its just a pull on and also doesnt need to be really fitted (the sizing is generous)
I know its a PIA to change them at night but they are awake anyway I like to change before the feed so they dont get all woken up after the sleepyness of feeding

I used to put Mandy Mac one-size hemp nappies on Billy as a newborn night nappy. There's plenty of room for more boosters - I can add a bamboo trifold as well as the separate hemp booster that comes with the Mandy Mac. The good thing about the MM's is that they fit 2.5-16kg so you won't need to buy larger night nappies as he grows, and because they fasten with a Snappi you can get a really nice fit around the legs.

Evie was born 4.3kg and since the beginning I've used bamboo velour Cute Tooshies on her just fine (I am a very bad mama and sometimes don't change her overnight even though she's a newborn, cos it doesn't seem to bother her and it would involve getting out of bed instead of just turning over and offering a breast when she wakes!) and find them pretty absorbent.
I also have a small dream-eze fitted that is very absorbent and fitted from the start.

Sophie is 3.8kg (6 weeks old) and she wears either a Wild Child fitted or AIO, I also have used Blueberry fitteds and Kissluvs fitteds but they seem to be very wet when I change her. I change Sophie every feed about every 4-5 hours overnight.
I have never had a pooxplosion problem and sometimes DH forgets to put a cover on and we haven't had a leak. For a cover I recommend wool as well, it breathes and is soft and flexible. The only PUL cover I have that I like to use when she is this small is a Berry Plush one. |

Have you tried boosting your Bubblebubs?
Most daytime AIOs that are well absorbent will work quite well as night nappies when boosted.Mandy-Mac is also a good idea as it's OSFA but being snappiable, it's easier to adjust the fit to fit your baby. You might like to try boosting it as well.
