    Default DIY Liner and Wipes

    Hi,

Not sure am I placing this topic at the right place but here comes the question.
Anyone have experience on DIY your own liner or wipes?

I am just sick and tired of keep tracking the disposable on sale and those that crap wipes that make my bub's bum red, inflame..

    Please share your formula/recipe..

I've used flannel sheets we weren't using much or some old clothing paired with a thin towel on the other side. Works well for us, one sides rough for extra help/grip when needed, the other sides smooth. Very easy to sew and I just make up new ones as they get ratty.

With one of my cloth nappy orders I bought a few bright small ones from a company. They're usually only one or two dollars each for smaller ones.

Yes you will be amazed how much easier it is, both nappy and wipes go into the bucket together.
I love not having to buy disposable wipes, would love to know how much it has saved us. I think their worth is overlooked when costing out the savings in cloth nappies.

I just chopped up some flannel in squares, and in an attempt to be classy, overlocked around the edges! Now I have the change table in the bathroom. The wipes sit in a basket beside the basin and I wet one (or two if the circumstances warrant it) before I put the boy on the change table and commence proceedings. Haven't had any issues just using water.

I do have some fancy wipes that have been thrown in as gifts with nappy purchases, and yes the towelling side is helpful if bubs is in a real mess. Wouldn't be hard to chop up an old towel for the same effect though.
Read my blog! or not... I guess I can't force you... or can I???!!!

I use the box I had for the disposable wipes and just wet a heap of cloth wipes and put them in the box each morning. Each night I leave the wipes to dry and wet them again the next morning so it doesn't go funky.

For wipes, I've got some WAHM ones which are velour on one side and flannel on the other side. They are my favourites . I've also got some that are just flannel and some that are polar fleece one side and flannel the other side. I've also got a pile of facewashers too but have noticed they're getting a bit scratchy lately so try to keep those for just in case.

Cloth wipes are so much easier than I thought they'd be. I wish I had known about them for Tiffany as I used disposable wipes with her right the way through, even though she was in cloth.

If you want a serious budget option, old flannel sheets or pjs will do the trick...

If you have a little extra cash, grab a metre (or 2) of cotton velour from spotlight or an online nappy fabric seller; cut in to 20cm squares and hem around them...

If you need a cheap wipes solution, here are a few...

cool a cup of chamomile tea
add a tspn of lemon juice or honey

    1 cup of warm water
1 teaspoon of baby oil or shampoo

    1 cup of warm water
2-3 drops of tea tree oil (or other essential oil)

    1 cup of warm water
    1 tablespoon of vinegar
    2 tspns aloe vera gel

I have a pile of those thin baby washcloths you can buy in Spotlight, they come about 10 in a pack, for a few dollars, I've also cut up a couple of ratty bunny rugs and hemmed them. I just keep a container of water next to the change table.

    Hi,
Wow! never knew so many are using cloth wipes. Errmm, at the moment budget constrain so I got some old clothes I think they are make of spandex and cotton. Is that ok?? Do I need to sew the edge? BTW its hand sewing no mc
Usually did you pair up at both side I mean 2 piece sew into 1??

    Mozzie,
The cheap wipe solution is it have to prepare everytime changing the bub??

    Photocat,
Won't wash cloth feel rough on bub's skin?

    Vicky,
Is it any fleece will work as liner? Do you need to sew the edge? Whats the size? Someone give me tigerairway fleece blanket as a baby gift, that is so hilarious and I am not using it as it looks really ugly, so I am thinking chopping it off become liner after its for the baby.. LOL

    Cheers

I cut up fleece to use as liners and as wipes. I have a spray bottle next to the nappies and just wet the wipes as needed. I also have a spray bottle in my bag for when we go out. Plain water, nothing fancy.
