Default Getting used to cloth at night?

my 1 year old wears cloth quite happily during the day and has no problem with her sleeps. However, I have always used disposables on her night. The last couple of weeks I have been trying to put her in cloth full time but she is really stuggling to get to sleep with them on. Lots of crying and even after she goes to sleep she will wake and cry and not want to go back down even if nappy is still bone dry. In the end I just change her back into a disposable and she goes straight to sleep no problems...

Has anyone else had this problem? Is it just a matter if her getting used to wearing cloth at night? like a sleep association thing?

Not sure what to do next.

I am not sure what is going on there, if she was worried about feeling 'wetter' than normal I guess that would explain it but if she is unsettled even without her nappy being wet, I really don't know-sorry!

My then 1yo Dd wentthrough something similar when summer started. I was getting a really strong ammonia smell in my pocket nappies of a morning so tried switching to a boosted fitted with a wool soaker instead but my DD was so unsettled and would wake for a brief time after each time she wee'ed and was just generally restless all night. So for her, it was the wetter feeling she had in the natural fibre fitted that worried her

I hope you can work out what is upsetting her so that you can find a cloth night nappy solution that you are both happy with. Good luck!

Oh, I haven't had that problem.

Maybe it's the thickness of the night nappy? My one year old's night nappy is so thick he looks like a penquin when he walks - but he doesn't complain = so yeah, maybe a sleep association thing like you think.

hmm I don't know. But I do believe that comfort does need to come first, sometimes I see the biggest night nappy bums and I think how uncomfortable that must be for the child, and in that case I would use sposies. They do have their place sometimes If she really hates it I wouldn't make her wear them, but that's just my opinion

Can you get away with less layers?
Is the make up of the night nappies different to the day ones - ie microfleece in one and velour in the other?
How is the fit? Are they too tight/too loose?
Pre-sposies we all would have been put to bed with huge terry nappies on our backsides so it is just a matter of what baby is used to.

Thanks for your replies. I think it was the size of the nappy what was the issue. DD has bad reflux so sleeps with her head raised and I think with the fat nappy on, her bum and head ended up being at the same level and her reflux bothered her. I tried I thinner cloth nappy on her over night and no complaints...except the silly thing soaked through and leaked everywhere. I accidentally had part of her singlet tucked into the nappy so of course it wicked into that and her entired back was wet and stinky with wee so she was wet through!! But she still slept in it so that wetness obviously isn't and issue with her! I have since just kept her in disposables during the night, at least until we get her reflux sorted, she is due for an operation in a month or so.

Ah oops!! Oh well at least now you know the wetness wasn't an issue!! You could try tilting the bed head up a bit more maybe?
