Default Wool Interlock or Felted Wool Crepe

I am planning to make several short covers and longies for DS to cover night nappies and for cooler day wear at home.

I am looking at Wool Interlock from bubbaearth and Felted Wool Crepe from Fairy Fabrics. What is the difference between these for the purposes of a pull up nappy cover? Also, would ribbing be suitable for the waist and legs?

    thanks for your wisdom,
    K

I haven't used either of those specifically, but I have made longies out of wool fabric and used the fabric itself for the waist (link: Surprisingly Domestic: 'Tis the season ...). I suppose it depends how stretchy the particular wool fabric is, but the ones I made fit great!

The one from Fairy Fabrics is thin and bumpy textured, but very soft.

Wool interlock is lovely and thick when felted - perfect for covering night nappies. I imagine the crepe would be alot thinner (more a light to medium weight) so you may need 2 layers. I'm guessing that the interlock would also be more stretchy than the crepe - which is probably what you want if you're making pullup covers.
There is also the much cheaper alternative of felting old woollen jumpers

    Default Washing Wool Interlock?

Well I went with the wool interlock - it is getting cold up here.

Now that I have it, do I throw it in the washing machine on wool cycle as one big piece or should I hand wash? From reading around here i know I need to felt it? Which I guess comes with a warm wash?

thanks for holding my hand - if there is a good place to read more please let me know!

    cheers

I felt my wool in the washing machine on a hot gentle cycle. Wool felts when you add heat and agitation - the more you agitate while in hot water, the more the wool will felt (up to a point, of course). I'd suggest you watch your fabric carefully (check it every few minutes when agitating) to see that it doesn't overfelt. But that being said, I'd rather overfelt (which means the fabric will be thicker than you plan) and know my sewn products won't shrink.
Does that help? I'm tired and mightn't be making alot of sense...

    Exactly as Kirsten has said

I have bought the bubbaearth wool too and did a normal wash cycle on warm/hot.

I have made some wool interlock covers which I love.

I must admit that I threw my fabric in the machine on a hot wash and washed away . It turned out fine and I have some great night time covers. I have used 2 layers on all of mine. I also have a a bought one which is 2 layers of felted wool interlock. My covers are made from the VB pattern and the bought one is a CB.
