Boy you're organised - you're due around the same time as me! I haven't even started on a NB stash yet!!

Save up and buy some decent covers, like Thirsties, bummis, Baby beehind are ok. Don't waste your money on cheap ones you get from Big W etc. For the same price as 3 or 4 bad ones you can have a few good ones which will last longer and hold in wee and poo better!

And you can't go past a few nice handknitted wool cover for night time baabinti Parrot Pants Possum Pouches OzeBaby.com.auall have some good ones!

I have some knitted covers that I made (not the prettiest!) and some lovely ones that MIL made. I loved them in summer as my 18 mth old LO just wore a fitted and a singlet on hot days and they wool covers really breathed.

I tried using wool covers on when she was younger but as she was swaddled and didn't move around at all when she slept, I got compression leaks with them. I only started using cloth when she was 4-5mths old so I can't comment on knitted ones for a newborn but I would guess that it might be a PITA at first as you could get lots of NB poop on them and they need to be washed gently and dried flat.

I agree with the PP's saying don't waste your money on crap covers from target or where ever as they really are crappy and don't work well at all.
Stick with Thirsties, Bummis, babybeehinds or similar it is worth the investment- your fitted nappies/prefolds will only be as good as your cover is afterall.

I am also pregnant and getting my stash all set. I mentioned this on another thread but on ebay atm there are cheap covers ( 6 for $33) which I bought. You can't really tell them apart from my Bummis super whisper wraps when they are side by side. They even have the flap at the front that you can tuck your prefold into if you want to. The seller let me pick sizes too which was good as I had already been given some great NB covers so I didn't want another six in that same size.

Good luck, enjoy your 'nesting' and stash building!

I haven't nappied a newborn yet, I started when Charlotte was about 2 months old, but they were fine from then, especially for night. I have heard of people using woolies for newborns and just not bothering to lanolise them as they get washed more often. If you can crotchet, it's probably worth making a few in NB size, and a few in small size - thats what I've done.

I always found PUL to be best for newborns, then upgrade to wool or fleece for nights and naps when they're about 4 months. Wool if by far the most expensive option, but well worth the money and if you're only using them for night you won't need many.

You can get some good one-size PUL covers, which work a treat over any type of nappy. Yet to find a fleece or wool one-size... ??
