Default Bamboo at night + wool cover HELP!

Hi, I am pleased to say that I bought some bitti d'lish and have loved using them as my first lot of MCN, I am now looking into something for night, I have noticed a lot of you do like using Bamboo fitted + wool covers at night, when you say wool covers do you mean the ones you buy say from BBH or do you mean the hand knitted wool covers??
AND when you use the hand knitted wool do you NOT put clothes on top?
Do you just put that over nappy?
and Does it hold in the wetness???

Sorry they might sound like silly questions, but I am new and would like some clarification please!!!

Thumbs up Re: Bamboo at night + wool cover HELP!

Both Hand knitted & crocheted as well as the ones from BBH. BBH fit the BBH nappies to a T. Soakers, shorties, longies & skorts you can fit over just about any fitted... you just have to make sure you have the right sized woollies for the particular nappy you are using. For eg. Sandmans & GNST have a high rise, so you have to make sure the wooly cover you buy/make has a nice rise that will cover the nappy. If you don't, you end up with a cover you *think* doesn't work... truth is the cover just might need a higher rise And also 10ply & 12 ply yarn is best for nights. Where as 8 ply is great for day use.

AND when you use the hand knitted wool do you NOT put clothes on top?
Yep sure can We put jammy pantys over DS soaker

Do you just put that over nappy?
    Yep

and Does it hold in the wetness???
Wool is the best cover by far for nights... well that's my opinion, but I know alot of other people share it

    Welcome to NC btw

I used the BBH wool covers for nights when C was little but found as she became older and was weeing more, they did tend to smell a lot in the morning.

I switched to hand knitted 12 ply soakers/longies for night time now and find the open weave of the hand knitting seems to breathe a lot better at night and is less smelly in the morning. In summer I just use soakers/shorties and in winter I just use longies, I don't put anything over the top.

And yes if your overnight nappy is absorbent enough, the wool will hold the wetness in.

For a little bubba a BBH nappy would probably be enough for overnight

Sorry does the wool need to be pure wool because of the lanolin? Not just normal knitting wool with polyester?

100% wool is recommended. But you can use acrylic [i have a cover MIL made me out of acrylic].
Personally I would go 100% wool if possible... but that's just me

100% wool needs less washing and smells less.

acryclic will work, and does work for me. But I do prefer the 100% wool ones for smell and they tend to work a little better.

acrylic makes for funky looking pants/shorts during the day though.

yup pure wool is great. as Cinders said, i have found the larger ply works best with my very heavy wetter. i tried 8ply knitted but it was not great over night, two 8ply soakers worked great as does the 12 ply soakers i can now crochet
also it is more the cover than the nappy that seems to be the issue for over night, for us. a decent fitted nappy can be let down by a ordinary cover. i have found a bitti boo with one mini booster works fantastic with a 12ply soaker overnight. we put jarmies and a sleeping bag over top and it still amazes me nothing gets wet. it is not that the wool holds the wetness, more that the wool allows it to evaporate.
    gotta love wool

I am better at sewing than knitted so I made a pair of pj pants from wool interlock. I used a regular PJ pant pattern (like the kind you use to make flannelette pjs) and wool interlock from bubba earth. I put them in the sun (when I remember) each morning between wears. I wash them every 1.5 to 2 weeks or sooner if smelly.

We have GNST and Sandmans bamboo nappies in extra large sizing. THe high rise is excellent because no matter what position Asch sleeps in during the night we never ever have a leak. Because I made the longies, I was able to make whatever rise I wanted. Asch is almost 16 kgs, 16 months old and about 95cms tall. My husband loves these night nappies. We also have wildchilds which are good too and fast drying - but not all natural fabrics.
