Hello just wanted to know....

I had only just bought my MCN when DD1 started at daycare, I didn't send them for her. She was only going randomly once or twice a month so I sent her with disposable. She now goes one day a week but is toilet trained.
I had discussed using cloth with the centre and they were fine with it. They actually brought the subject up! Though no other kids there are in cloth.
DD2 had her first casual day last week. And I discussed it with the carer in her room. She was fine with cloth. Though had never had any contact with MCN's. She said she'd rinse them before bagging. I told her not to bother just to empty any solids out!
I sent 6 with her for a full day as the carer said they are checked every hour and if they are even a little bit wet they are changed. She only came home with 2 dirties though.
Fortunately their policy for nappy rash potions is corn flour or paw paw ointment.

Before broaching with your daycare can I suggest taking a look at the Australian Nappy Networks Cloth and Childcare fact sheet? Its always good to go in prepared as some daycares are very receptive to using cloth and others arent.
Do you want your childcare centre to use cloth nappies? « Australian Nappy Network® Ltd
Oh and if you get stuck feel free to ask.
Our staff didn't bat an eye lid. I just told them, that this is what we use and showed them. I take 6 nappies with Brocky. Usually bubblebubs or IB.

Well I know they change their nappies every 2hrs then before & after sleeps and then in between all that if they poo, so I would need a lot of nappies, I have just started and don't have enough. Do you think it would be alright to buy a stash of cheap ones like Coolababy just to use as daycare nappies?? They do provide disposable at no extra cost, so I can let them use them, but I would rather he didn't go back to them now he is in cloth!
I send 6-8 of my basics on the whole - simple AIO's like Magic alls or stuffed pockets.
I have had a few issues with times between changes etc but on the whole they have been very receptive to all my wacky ideas
I send a bucket too - I would prefer to send a wet bag but they just don't seem to understand the wet bag concept - they kept wrapping the nappies in a plastic bag before putting them in the wet bag so the bucket it is.
It may be worth buying one or two to try before you buy a whole stash though!
I'd check out Buy for Baby too, for some cheap second hand nappies, also if you get your post count up to 50 (and have been a member for a month I think) you can access the trading room here, which is great!!

When my two were in daycare in Aus last year, the staff were almost excited that someone wanted them to use cloth! I sent itti's and BG's and they showed some of the other mums who then asked me where to buy them
For now, you'd be doing well to send what you have to save that number of disposables from going in the bin, then just send more if needed as your collection grows.

I have just started my 6 1/2 month old son in daycare and i was worried about what the staff would say when i approached them about using MCN but i have had no problems at all, one of the lady who works in the babies room has been in childcare for 40 years so she was around before they were using disposables.
I send 8 CT basixs per day, they usually change every 2 hours. The only problem i have had is that they put the dirty/wet nappies inside a plastic bag inside the wetbag, they don't understand that they don't need to use a plastic bag as well, lol.
We have had no problems at all. I send all in ones and a wet bag. I had to explain about the wet bag cause we had the wrapped problem too! Now the nappies are just put in the wet bagIt all works really well and the staff are really happy about the absorbency and the lack of rash! No probs!
Hi,
I'm just about to start sending my 2 year old to family day care. His carer is happy for him to be in cloth. Her only issue was I would need to show her how to fold them, bless her! I showed her his MCNs and she loves them.
I was just wondering what everyone does about soiled nappies- do you use flushable liners or get them to bag the poop up with the nappy or something else?
Also- do you use disposable wipes? I'm guessing we'll send disposable wipes along but then I'm wondering what she's going to do with them... maybe I'll need to send nappy sacks for her to bin the wipes. It's going to make the process fiddly for her, which I really don't want to do!
Thanks![]()
just a thought- could you send along a pack of tissues (instead of wipes) with some sorbolene and she can put everything in nappy and then you can rinse the whole lot out at home with little squirt. The tissues can go in the loo to be flushed away with everything else??! just an idea.

Hmm- that's not a bad idea! My son does messy poop though so I might trial that at home cause I'm not convinced wiping him with tissues would be much fun.
Hi dynnyrne - welcome to NC, when you get a chance could you pop into getting to know you and do a little intro?
I don't have my DD in daycare but she goes to Granny and Opas for a few hours once a week. I just give them what I use at home - cloth wipes and a little squeezy sauce bottle of water for if they go out. I just get them to put the pooey nappies in the wetbag and I just get rid of the poo when they get home. Easier than having to try and separate pooey wipes.

Marlie, at 18mths, started daycare last week....(3 days a week)
I gave my daycare no choice (as Marlie is allergic to sposie and also wipes) that they had to use MCN on him, and although the nasty current rash he has (darn teeth) they were more excited to see them, than Marlie!
I send 5 BBH minkees/PUL Smooth with snaps (as Marlie can get off velcro) and 10 wipes and they have been AWESOME! I also send a wetbag, and it hasnt been an issue....
I sent BumGenius pockets with DS2, with a flushable liner - that way they could flush most of the poo. Our daycare provides wipes, so luckily I didn't have to worry about that one.
When you send MCN, make sure you leave clear instructions (I even left my mobile number on the nappy bucket in case they had any issues!) - especially regarding the use of creams on your naps.
Good luck!

I just get our day care to put all the nappies straight into the wet bag I provide and I deal with it all when I get home. I get day care to use their wipes but make sure it's the non perfumed ones.

My youngest has been in cloth in daycare with no issues, although they had a new girl one day and he came home with one on backwards
I give a wetbag, but yes, they will still wrap the poopy ones in a plastic bag and then put it in the wetbag. If it's a solid poop they tip it in the loo, if it's squishy the leave it there and I deal with all at home. They use their own wipes and I wouldn't send cloth ones, they have young carers in that room....lovely, but not a great deal of common sense I feel....and I'm sure the would go awol, or they just wouldn't know what to do with them
I send about 6 pre-stuffed pockets, ones they can't really get wrong. I had a fleece topped microfibre booster in a bbh aio once and they turned the liner upside down so the micro was against his bum. I don't send those any more.
sadly the centre jon has started at wouldn't accept cloth, and despite bringing in a huge wetbag and explaining its EXACTLY the same u take the nappy off chuck it in the wet bag instead of the bin and then put a new one on - won't allow it. and sadly the other local centre has a HUGE waiting list =(
oh and the looks i got when i asked about cloth wipes if they were ok
'but we provide wipes' yes but i'd prefer those aren't used on my son so can i send in my own? 'no you don't have to pay for them we provide them' umm *headbutts the desk*
Amy, they actually aren't allowed to refuse if you press hard enough. Centres are required to follow parenting practices that are followed at home so if you use cloth at home, they are required to follow that at the centre.
Could you try telling them that after using sposies you have found out that Jon gets major nappy rash and you just can't use them anymore, so it's cloth or they EC. I guarantee you that would do cloth over EC. Just insist that you will not use sposies so cloth it is.
I just gave my centre no choice, it was cloth or nothing. They have now even changed their routine info sheet for babies to "cloth or disposable"

they had already had a cow about jon not been vaccinated so i kinda just went umm k won't push it lol but i think once the nappies i bought recently on nc arrive I will push it a bit harder as then i will have a larger stash that fits him properly and be able to if need be leave a large number at the centre (as they had a real problem with the idea of me sending them in with him each day instead of having a pack there constantly)
I bring in 6 on Monday and then just keep an eye on them on the bench and bring in other's as needed each day. So I see 2 on the bench Mon afternoon I bring in 4 on Tues morning and just place them on the bench.
I got very weird looks about Brock's non-vacc too, but cloth was just a non issue for me. Good luck Amy

The preschool that Scott and Felicity go to didn't really bat an eyelid after I showed them and stated that the nappies will come with a flushable liner and the nappies would come in a wetbag that has a dry section and a wetbag section for the soiled ones. I still occasionally get a plastic bag though.
We did have an issue with not changing him frequently enough and Scott got a nasty rash but since then he gets toileted ( he wee's and poo's in a potty at home all day) frequently and changed as need be.
I just said point blank " we use cloth" and they had no recourse as Karena said.
I pack the nappys everyday though, interesting that you need to have a stack left there though...
I send BG's and pockets or anything front closing, side snap is a no go and lay in boosters disappear.![]()
