This is a great thread.

I love to be reminded that we are talking about nappies!! NOt the latest fashion trend- even though its is great to be cool and cute!

I love the idea of swapping and freecycling..

Keep the ideas coming!!

As a newbie to MCN I would like to thank everyone for this thread. We are expecting twins at Christmas time and we really can't afford to do the whole disposable thing full time. Everyone (expcept a few close friends) think that we are crazy doing cloth but I know that with a little bit of effort on my part I can make it work.

This thread has made me see that if I keep my eyes open when op shopping and thinking outside the square I can do things a little cheaper.

Thanks

Celena

Making my own bumjumpers from 100% wool big mens' jumpers at opshops.

i can't knit to save myself, and am just learning how to sew on a sewing machine, but the online tutorials about how to sew a bumjumper are even simple enough for a newbie to understand - and get a workable product out of.

i can get a few longies out of a man's jumper. The two sleeves make one. THe chest and back bits make another.

Using the Monkey High Mile pattern for pullup soakers, you can also make those out of old jumpers.

Making bamboo trifolds is what i would do if i had another bub. Fold in three, you have six layers of bamboo for them to wee thru - then use them as pocket stuffers when baby gets bigger.

Avoid the cheapie covers at chain stores, waste of money.

If you can sew a straight line, make your own boosters, trifolds.
Cut up stay dry liners from half a metre of microfleece at spotlight.

spend the money on decent covers and a little squirt.

i haven't found opshops with 2nd hand MCN either! only Eenees and those chain store covers, which i don't count.

Freecycle. I asked on there and got all my flats, a couple of covers, a couple of microfleece liners, a whole lot of boosters and trifolds and a cool elmo nappy bucket
