Default Heavy Wetter - just not used to this... any hints?

My 7wk old is such a heavy wetter she is wetting through pretty much everything. The only ones I can put on her ATM are fitteds BBB & Bamboo Delights but they are drenched in as short a time as two hours and often outside her covers.

My eldest was never a heavy wetter and can wear her bubblebubs without ever having a leak... even over night.

My 7wk old drenches through her bubblebubs, even with a cover over it and through her clothes as well

I am waiting on more bumg AIO's as they seem to hold it a little better and more bamboo delights but the wait is about 5 weeks and I don't know what to do in the meantime. I will need to sell my bubblebubs but I won't have enough to use if I do...

Any hints?????????

My eldest was a very heavy wetter and I made some microfibre and some bamboo boosters and would put one of each in every nappy. It made the nappies last a much more reasonable time .

I agree - if you can fit even a small booster (homemade or bought) in the Bubblebubs it might just be enough to help last. I love a combo of hemp, microfibre and even flannelette. Makes for a trim absorbent booster - mine were homemade though.

Otherwise you may just need to change more frequently. I generally change Thomas every 2 hrs, give or take a bit, sleep times would be the exception though.

Another option is to boost outside the nappy (so between the nappy and cover or longies). Gives extra absorption without compromising the fit of the nappy.

Good luck

a new baby wees around every 10mins or so when awake, so 2 hrs could mean up to at least 10 wees. I would suggest more frequent changes, especially when awake.

Hi there!
How's it going? What a wetter!!
I agree that a basic nappy can be much better with good boosting in and outside the nappy (inside the cover). (That being said, it is more true with a mobile toddler than a lying in the one position weeing all the time 7wo (now 8wo!))
The only other thought is to check the fit of the covers, sometimes PUL's on small bodies don't fit well, which would accentuate that leaking. A fleece cover may give better protection but I couldn't guarantee that on a small baby, but they are cheap to make and try out or buy and try out.
Is there someone you could borrow some hemp or bamboo nappies from for the few weeks until the others arrive? (Sorry I am in NSW or I could russle up a couple.)
I know that for me, only hemp would do when my DD2 was little. (That was pre-bamboo).
regards, and happy nappy changing,

My 11WO DS does much the same kind of thing.... drenches a BBB in a couple of hours, and leaks out of most AIOs I've tried in one big wee. It's always a tradeoff for us whether we construct a "colossus" nappy that will keep him dry but is so big that his little legs stick out sideways, or whether we keep the nappes trim but change outfits at every nappy change.

We have had the best balance (between trimness and absorbency) so far with - gasp - basic cotton terry flats in PUL covers or wool shorties, and just changing him every time he wees. Sometimes a bamboo hourglass or some trifold booster tucked in the terry gives us a little longer too. I keep buying cute AIOs (TIC, bubblebubs, KIC, magicalls etc). but I keep going back to kite-folded terry squares.

These days he wakes at night not always cos he's hungry but frequently because he's wet through everything, so we've been trying a series of "colossus" nappies to see what gets us the longest sleep. Bubba J hemps are looking good, so are Sandman night nappies, both boosted right up (inside & outside) and wrapped in PUL then wool. We have had to tilt the basinette matress up a bit, because his nappy was so big that he was lying with his head downhill, which he didn't like very much. Poor little guy - stuck like a turtle on his back. But relatively dry at least.

we have/do change/check theo very frequently - he has been dry overnight since very early (which i put down to changing him as he will always let us know if he needs to be changed) and we still go through about 15 or so nappies per 24hours - and he spends a lot of time nekid
he's now 4months btw
so i'd suggest more changes - i suspect it will make toilet transition much smoother
