My dd has just turned 19mths and suddenly all of her nappies are leaking after an hour. Is it repelling, I haven't changed the washing powder though. Or does it mean shes become a heavy wetter? At least its summer soon and she can have no nappy at home but every time we go out now her nappy leaks on her clothes. Its a bit frustrating.

Hi there.
It could be either. I reckon that at 19 mo it could be big wees as they can often start to hold on by this age. One hour doesn't seem very long, but a big wee is a big wee whenever it comes. My heavy wetter outwees or maximum fills any nappy I can throw at her bottom when she actually wees. For example, not that long ago when out all morning she managed to have leaks from a pretty heavy duty nappy - the morning she hadn't wee'd before we went out. I now add a microfibre if I expect an extra big one. It seems a shame the wee comes when you are out!!!! That aside, while I have had a few months of erratic big wees, needing extra boosting etc, my DD has now moved to weeing more regularly and wanting to use the potty and pants, so perhaps it is a sign of a move to summer toilet training (although she's a bit young, but if she has the skills that is not a problem!!). If you don't think she is holding on, then perhaps you do need to look at a strip wash (I've never done one, but there are lots of threads on it). Lazy me would probably look at doing a hot wash with an extra final rinse as a starting point and see if that helps. HOpe you find a solution soon. I suppose the test would be that if the leaks don't resolve when you add extra boosting to the nappy (if a fitted even add it to the outside if the inside is a bit bulky), then you have a repel issue. If it is the liner that is repelling, it might be quicker to replace the liner. Just a few ideas, hope you find a good solution, cheers,

Sounds more like they are learning to hold on so rather than lots of little wees over a period of time they are doing it all in one hit. Try boosting with something that will absorb quickly like microfibre or flannellette (that has been well broken in) and then backing it with something that will hold the liquid well like hemp.

Hi. thanks! Some very good suggestions. I think it is possible thats she's holding on longer. She does some of her pees in the potty and all of her poos. Sometimes the pees are huge! Also lately she sometimes asks to do a pee when she wakes up in the morning. I havent been serious about potty training because the other half of the time she wants nothing to do with it. I'm mainly reffering to AIO's when we are out. I
have different types and they all leak now. And by one hour I mean, the first wee she does. Suppose it cant hurt to do a strip wash to see and then i'll know for sure. |

Yep,
Fitteds and plain PUL are the only thing we trust completely when out!! If I use my homemade fleece AIOs then they will be extremely boosted. I also very much agree with the need to do a quick absorber booster near the wee and a good holder like hemp near the cover. When I see what my DD can put in the potty very quickly I realize why the nappies have been challenged!! cheers,
