When you upload a new image for your avatar is it automatically resized to the correct size or are you suppose to do it before you upload. The reason I ask is I uploaded an image that was bigger than recommended (accidentally) and it seems to have resized it. Is there any way to tell what the size is now?

Thanks heaps for that Aimee, I started uploading it and then realised it was highly likely too big and panicked lol.

Does this mean if I put a photo in as my avatar it will automatically be resized no matter how big it is? Does this go for pictures in posts too?

I'd think that the software will scale it down to fit in the avatar space because any HTML can tell an image to be a certain size, but I wonder if it scales it down in terms of file size etc? I would think that part of the reason that we are asked to make it small is so that people aren't having to download large files. A large file (in terms of bytes) can be displayed as a tiny image but still have all the underlying data that makes it a large file.

i have tried to resize my image for an avatar on photobucket, but it isnt the right size, and the size in the guidelines makes it look distorted, am i doing somethin wrong?
