Default Thanks DH! System Security virus

My darling husband, in all his wisdom, downloaded a virus to our computer last night. Apparently he got a pop up with a message from 'System Security' saying we had all these viruses & to download the 'free' software to delete them. So he did

The 'free' software now pops up a warning every minute or so saying we have 8013 viruses & 3067 trojans & if we pay $70 they'll take care of them for us At this stage it doesn't appear to have caused any other damage to the system other than to generate this annoying pop-up all the time. I hope I'm not just being naive about that

Does anyone know how to get rid of this stupid thing now we've got it? Our Norton anti-virus software detects it but can't get rid of it & we can't uninstall the software ourselves.

    ARRRRGGGHHHH!!!

Shane suggests if Norton has detected it and and given it a name - google that and it will tell you what to do. It's a time consuming process to get rid of them though Tell your husband NOT TO CLICK ON ANYTHING lol!!

oh gosh they are usually on porn sites and crack sites lol ( i know from experience...)

Unistall the thing, then run a virus AND spyware scan. The most thorough one.

We can't uninstall it. That was the 1st thing we tried to do once we realised what had happened.

I've spent most of the day following various instructions I've found on Google but still haven't been able to get rid of it. Everytime I think it's gone until I restart the computer & then the bloody thing is back again
