    Angry sexually harrassing emails

Why do I keep getting emails (in which the sender's name changes with each email) selling me viagra (even though I have said in 'message rules' in Outlook express to delete any email with 'viagra' in it), and lots of scribble?

I feel uncomfortable seeing this sort of stuff, and it's everyday these last few days that this has been happening!

    What should I do?!

    They are spam

get something like mailwasher (google it), to deal with e-mails before they come in. Also a lot of e-mails will come spelled "vi@gra" or "v!agra" and so on, to get around the rules you've set, so make sure you include all spellings.

The spam has the word 'sex' written on it... and I explicitly said to delete any mail that has that word on it!

Yep. Filters won't always filter 100% of everything. I've personally found outlook's filters to only work half the time.

Spam is a side effect of the internet, the only way to completely avoid spam is to not have e-mail.

You have the choice to just delete anything that doesn't look like it's been sent to you... (unless you specifically asked for viagra, you know it's just spam, so why bother opening it??) or to read through them and have the potential to be offended. You can of course complain about it, but that's the least efficient spam-busting method...

Spam is unfortunate, but it's a fact of internet life - you just have to learn to delete.

I also think it depends on your IP..with AAPT we got heaps of spam...since we switched to netspace we get NONE, they filter it out before it gets to us.

Since I changed to mozilla thunderbird for email I haven't had any of those spam emails. When I was using outlook I was getting 3 or 4 each day

Ahhhh KP - wish there was an easy answer to entirely eliminate them... I wake up to at least 80 every morning and they continue to come in throughout the day. I just delete them straight from my mail server with mailwasher.

If it gets too much, get a new email address and then be very careful about who you give your address to (websites - joining sites, entering competitions, doing surveys etc). My personal address (which I've had for at least 5 years) gets maybe one spam a month because I'm careful about where I use it. Anything I think might result in spam I use other email addresses for - either a yahoo acct that I don't check or my old work account that already gets the spam.
