Please help me recover a word document

I think I know the answer to my question but...
does anybody know if it's possible to restore a document that's been saved over? Something went wrong when I saved my assignment last night & when I opened word this morning it offered me a recovered file but I cancelled it because I knew I had saved the document before I closed the computer down last night Now when I've tried to open the file this morning all my work is gone I've searched all my folders inc. the backup folder & it's not there.

Is there anything I can do other than start re-writing the bloody thing?

sorry but as far as I know no You can try going to the recent documents and see if the recovered file is there and lets you open it. sometimes it works but if you have restarted your computer since then I don't think so....I hate it when that happens
