Default advice for sick bub

Claire is still unwell. We were at the doctors on Friday and she has no signs of infection so he is sure it's still something viral that is taking her body a long time to clear.

She is very mucousy and it is causing her to vomit a lot. Generally during or straight after a feed she will start coughing and not stop til she vomits and it always contains lots of mucous.
She is doing at least 2 huge poos a day which are just like newborn breastfed poos, a light yellow colour and just liquid. These are very acidic and are burning her skin as soon as she does them.
She's not feeding very much, maybe getting only 5 feeds a day in - which doesn't sound too bad, but she was feeding minimum of 8 times a day prior to this. So between the poo/spew and reduced feeds she is only having a couple of wet nappies a day which really concerns me.
I'm not giving her solid food and haven't for the past 2.5 days and strangely enough she seems happy in herself, smiling, babbling, playing with her toys/sister.

Should I be seeking a 2nd opinion?? I do really trust our family GP tho..

Any tips on what I can do/give her to help her recover?? Is this where probiotics might be benificial??

Please help, I'm over being spewed on and I don't think my bed can take much more either .

Flynn had this a few weeks ago and after 5 days it stopped.

On advice from out GP who I trust i gave him panadol which codeine (or whatever is in it ) has a stop diarrohea effect and after a few doses it stopped and his poo went back to normal.

Nothing really to add just ride it out. If is continues any more days I would go back just to make sure she isn't dehydrated.

Keep up her fluids if you can.

Sorry to hear Claire is sick Tracee

I don't have much advice for you either except to say that if you are really concerned then another opinion won't hurt! How many days has she been vomiting and having less feeds? Maybe that is an indication of how quickly you should take her back to the docs? I know if they seem dehydrated at all the docs will be quite concerned but also, like you said, if she seems quite happy in herself otherwise then they will be less worried.

It's no fun having a sick bubby, take care and I hope she gets better (or you get the answers you need) soon!

if you are worried go back
they won't mind, especially if you have a decent rapport with them
and they will reassure you or they will say ok now we can try this

Thanks ladies

Today is day 4 of 'eviction of all bodily fluids' all over mummy. We have given panadol a couple of times but it has done nothing. She doesn't seem dehydrated so I'm sure the GP will only say up her fluids which is hard to do when she is refusing any extra. I have been feeding her with as much skin to skin contact as possible and she will have a really good feed if we have a shower together but his isn't always possible when Abbey is here too.

Kids hey, wouldn't it be nice if they came with a n instruction manual!

Poor Claire

The warm shower and steam is probably helping to clear her airways making it easier to feed, have you tried a Vaporiser it might help clear her mucuous??

And if she'll eat it maybe some yoghurt with some acidopholus in it will help to soothe her gut.

I hope she gets better soon Tracee

Tracee - Have you tried Brauer's Stomach Calm? I used that with my girls recently when they had some diarrhoea. Hope Claire is feeling better soon.
