Default lunch box junk

i recently did my mum's roster day at my son's kindy and was shocked at the kids lunches. these children are 4 and
one little girl had 3 pkts of chips, 2 roll ups and 3 chocs and some other unidentifiable foods(share pk size-like it matters).i don't think she was expected to eat it all
another little boy had 6 sm chocs and a fizzy drink.
after talking to the teacher she said she hoped the parents were intending on watching the new show' honey we're killing the kids'(i think that's what it's called).
i believe our teachers do a great job and don't need the extra burden of 20-30 kids on sugar highs and lows.
i also believe that the kids want to impress their teachers so would eat what they have, there is no junk option we can feed them healthy and they wouldn't know it, mostly they want what they see.
if they all had healthy they would all want healthy-i don't mind treats and i pack muffins and muesli bars but this is a bit much.
what do you all think

How can anyone think that is ok for a 4 yr old to eat!!
I feel bad when Vally has 1 mini paket of chips - and that's once in a blue moon!
I have nearly always sent fruit only for her kindy snack, a few times she's had cubes of cheese, and a few times she's had water crackers with vegemite on them.

Apart from being healthier, it's also much CHEAPER to just put a mandarin or a banana (ok, well maybe not banana's these days LOL) in the lunch box.

Worry is like a rocking chair - it gives you something to do, but it doesn't get you anywhere.

It is really hard when your kids get to school and they see what other kids have for lunch.

My kids usually have 2 fruit, sandwich and one peice of junk (museli bar, small chips) and sometimes sultanas or cheese stick.

Lucky my kids eat fruit but some friends say there children don't /won't eat fruit.

I let my kids eat junky food but def in moderation.

It does annoy me when at kindy it is supposed to be fruit time and you see timy teddies etc. GRRRRR

As my children attended a Montessori school to start with, we were asked never to send anything like that (not that most of us would have anyway) and if a child was found to have these items in their lunchboxes, they would be removed and given back to parents when the child was collected.
My eldest two have always had healthy lunchboxes (especially Calen....LOL) and they have never complained....

Ok, I couldn't find a smilie that looked shocked enough!

OMG!!!

WOW, I can't get over that, don't even know what to say...

Why doesn't the teacher send hom a note advising what foods are suitable for school?
And convescating anything not on the list?

I know at my sisters school, they will not allow you to sned lollies/chocolates etc, and you MUST have at least one peice of fruit in your lunchbox.

I have a friend who child has just turned two and from as far back as I can remember her lunch box always contains chips, and basically junk. I find this quite sad that you can't encourage your child to at least try fruit.

So far I have kept Flynn away from junk but it is his birthday today so he might have a peice of cake as a treat.

That's really bad.
I'm already stressing about what to send my daughter to kindy with for lunch next year because she is a picky eater and often doesn't eat a 'proper' lunch, but if i sent bits and pieces it'd be things like rice crackers, Nutella/Vegemite sandwiches, fruit, and sometimes muesli bars or a small chip packet (one of those, not both...) Probably yogurt if I can work out how to keep it cold enough; she loves that.
As a kid I used to get a sandwich/roll/pita bread, a couple of pieces of fruit and one not-so-good item like a muesli bar or chips or a mini muffin or something. I think that's fine if the child is physically active. But lollies and the like? And NOTHING proper in there? Ugh.

My son is in FDC, and the carer asks that no high-sugar foods be sent. Noah gets muffins (low sugar, with oats, etc), home-made flat bread, some type of biscuit (home-made), a few pieces of fruit etc. If I am having a bad day, I will send some commercial biscuits (jatz, arrowroot, ginger nut), but I just don't have any of those other things. He went to a friend's house (who is also 2), and the mum gave him cheese balls in a small bag. He had never seen them before!!

I know it must be difficult for parents when their kids see other kids eating junk, but I am hoping that I don't succumb to that.

I'm horrified to hear what people think is acceptable for kids snacks/lunches! I'm also a little surpised that a lot of people seem to think a muesli bar or chips are ok, even occasionally. We were never allowed chips etc at home and would never have had them at school. They were a birthday party, or some other special event thing only. Saying that, most of my friends got chips in their lunch (along with sandwiches) and I was so jealous

My guys take sandwiches, cheese cubes, pieces of ham, mini quiches, yoghurt, fruit (banana, kiwi fruit, grapes), sultana's, and sometimes two small heinz baby muesli bars. I sent two small patty cakes one day and they got sent home. I'm actually making them mini quiches for lunch tomorrow as we speak.
