Kim, my DH has had chronic eczema at times and has since a little bub He loves the Gaia soothing lotion which i bought incase Lily had any and says it's one of the best products he's tried. He also uses jurlique calendula on his face as a moisturiser.

Gaia was developed to be kind to eczema bubs

Excellent point Aimee, often is!!!

If it's particularly bad, skip having a bath for that day, as tap water makes it worse. Oats in the bath like someone else mentioned is a good idea. I have tried so many creams. A lot of them, including Moogoo makes my baby's eczema worse. Unfortunately the only thing that works is cortisone cream prescribed by the doctor. Once it's under control, moisturise, moisturise, moisturise to help prevent it from coming back. Natural fibres are better than polar fleece etc. which can make them perspire, and the eczema worse.

Good luck with it

Oh sorry that the Moogoo doesn't work for your bubba Susannah

Skip a bath is a good idea Kim. I find that bathing only 2-3 times a week is more than enough for Becky. Oat doesn't work for us and unfortunately makes the ezcema worse I think every child's ezcema reacts differently to certain things. And I second natural fibre clothings, Becky's ezcema is at its worse when she wears synthetic clothes.

thanks guys. I only bath him every other day anyway, so I might just cut that back a bit. hadn't thought about a reaction to milk but I'll keep an eye on it. i don't drink that much milk myself (have it on my cereal and that's about it) and he is BF so doesn't get any other milk in his diet (that I know of!).

it doesn't seem as bad today so maybe it was more obvious last night because he was hot with a high temp, but he still has really dry skin and I can see the blotchy patches on him. will try some of the products mentioned here and see how I go!

Kim if the reaction was to dairy (through your breastmilk) then it is most likely you would have noticed symptoms prior to now.

I have a little eczema- it crops up when I am stressed. Perhaps being ill is contributing to lowered immunity causing symptoms? It may improve when he is well? There is a non-steriod cream you can get now too. My doctor gave me a tiny trial tube- I 'll check the name and get back to you.

:-) Lindy

I read somewhere about a study that was done that suggested that probiotics in the diet can help with eczema. I'll try and find it...

that's what I was thinking was happening Lindy. it doesn't seem so bad today and he is MUCH better than he was yesterday. i really lubed him up with sorbolene tonight though (all i have) so he was a slipperty little bugger LOL! I don't think it is a dairy reaction. his skin is really dry all the time so i think maybe the illness has aggravated his skin or something. he's been running a temp on and off for a few days.

any info would be good to help this, cause I know my brother had bad eczema when he was a bub and Louis had a small amount too, but this is looking much worse than anythign I've seen before.

I remember now. I first read about it when I was trawling the net looking for info on eczema and cloth nappies (not for us, but for a friend who does cloth part time who was going to abandon cloth altogether). Anyway, I came across an "Eczema Tribe" thread on another forum that just totally blew me away.... http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=289118
(made me realise I knew nothing about eczema. Still don't )

Anyway, here's something re: probiotics which tbh I haven't read all the way through But looks familiar (perhaps I read it before?) http://www.health-report.co.uk/probi...ic_disease.htm

If the non-steroid cream is elidel i'd steer clear from it. I also got the sample and it worked really well, so here i thought i was doing good avoiding the steroid cream. My nurse and dr both recommended it. Then i looked it up on the net and was fuming!!! There hasnt been adequate research conducted on it, and some studies that have suggested links to cancer. Its also only recommended for children 2 years and over and i was giving it to my dd who was 6 months at the time I was so upset about it and quite concerned about any effect it might have. Luckily i only gave it to her for a couple of weeks or so, but it taught me a valuable lesson...never give anything to your kids unless you know what it is!

Meleuca honey eczema cream ended up working for Karima....available at chemists and definately worth a try.
