Aimee- I saw on that "whats good for u" show that a diet with plenty of low gi carbs and low fat is the way to go to lose weight.

(As posted in teh other thread...lol)

Im roughly following the csiro diet.. lots of meat! lol Actually, less meat then normal.. I hardly eat cow now at all! Lamb, fish and chicken are my main sources of protein (I much prefer eating the 'right' sized animal if that makes sense!). As a bonus.. lamb mince is heaps cheaper then normal mince so I have cut my food bill down! lol Even though I now buy a $7 can of salmon each week!...yummy!

The csiro site has the basic 'checklist' of what to eat (eg 1 cereal, 3 diary, 1 lunch meat, 1 salad, 3 vegetable etc) on a printable chart if anyone is interested I can hunt down the link.

Main things I've done..
1. switch to wholegrain bread and pasta
2. no carb serve with dinner.. just meat and veg
3. protein at lunch.. tuna, ham, or eggs (100g)
4. switch to low-fat milk and cheese and yogurt
5. no cordial and only diet softdrink occasionally
6. exercise!

Now I have hit a 'stagnant point' with my wieght loss and its driving me mad.. nothing lost at all last week (went up a kilo even) but I think that might be my muscle point! I have gone up in all my wieghts at the gym so I am definanlty building muscle! Im still loosing centimeters so I am happy with that.

Not hugly overwieght but I was heading that way..

Starting wieght was 69kg (70 on a bad day) and 103cm round the waist
Now.. 65/6 kg and 98cm round the waist!
Im only 155cm tall and my target wieght is 53kg (though I used to be 47kg average)

(the waist measurements also puts me down a level in the risk of heart disease!)

Oh.. I weigh in every Monday.

I second the low GI foods. My parents both have diabetes and I have a very high risk of getting it.

I have yoyoed in my weight over the last 7 years, but the BEST BEST BEST way has been for me to eat low GI. When I stick to it, I have more energy, am more alert, happier and loosing weight (even though it is a little slower than some of the fad diets).

If you can change your lifestyle and replace all of the high gi foods in you cupboard with low gi alternatives, you are half way there. I seriously recommend getting your hands on a couple of diabetic cook books - the food is filling, health and really yummy (if you get a good book )

LOL! I am doing the opposite of Jeni I am doing the Liver Cleansing Diet on weekdays and having some naughties on the weekends (within reason).

So this is me:

No dairy (I am missing the cheese already!)
No red meat
No white things e.g. white pasta and bread must be wholemeal/grains
Salad with every large meal
Heaps of fruit and veg
Heaps of healthy nibblies like hommos and nuts etc.
No butter/marg
heaps of water!

It probably isn't as hard as it seems for me as I used to be a vegan

I need to lose around 15kg!

Sarah - have you tried wholemeal toast with vegemite then avocado mashed on top? It is so yummy and tastes better than butter! Also porridge for breaky is awesome at keeping you full

Heres to a great weight loss/healthy journey together!

Bec.

Smile Re: Fat Fighters!

I found out about the GI Way because I have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome/Disease.

PCOS has been linked to Insulin problems.....hence the Diabetic part.

When I have followed this way of eating, I have felt much more satified. (not Hungry)
A Women at James Kinder lost heaps of weight with Low GI foods After being diagnosed
with Gestational Diabetes.

Good thread Sarah

Its cool Aimee

RE: CSIRO diet. I found this great but.. so expensive. All that meat really adds up fast. I have been buying pork fillet lately. Its really cheap and very lean.

When shall we all do a weigh in? Shall we officially start this on Monday to get organised with food etc? or is that procrastinating ?(That is my downfall)

I am 160cm and I am closing in on 85 kgs! Its very hard for me to lose weight due to some health issues..I have also have a non existent metabolism but I have been prescribed a booster from my specialist which will hopefully start working soon.
Yep diabetic diets are pretty damm good..we are on it but I do very little exercise and I eat extra..so I never shifted my pregnancy weight..oh whoops I was up to almost 100kgs..mostly due to water retention..and I went down to 80kgs a week or so after I had Lil and I am slowly creeping up again

I don't mind when we weigh in because I usually jump on the scales most days anyway

It's a pretty bad time of the year to start a weight-loss challenge though! Personally, I'll be happy just to maintain my weight over Christmas/New Year. I'm just kidding myself if I think I will lose weight over the next 2 weeks. But, if I'm not carefull, I will gain weight & I can't afford to do that - my clothes are already too tight
