My Aunty promised my cousin she'd get a great big teddy bear if she wee'd in the potty and stopped wearing nappies... she was 10 months old... she never wore a nappy again
![]() But that's juts freaky ![]() I'm not for torturing my children by making them sit on a potty for hours can you imagin how uncomfortable that would be?

I think it's a case of people 'making me feel' like I should get him started - comments etc. He squats when he does a poo & does say 'poo poo' when I go to change his nappy. What 'signs' should I be on the look out for?

Don't make other people decide whats right for you and Alex regardless of the comments!
In terms of signs, Izaak was doing things like if he was playing and he was doing a wee he would stop whatever he was doing, walk a few steps away from his toys and hold his nappy. When he was finished he would try and pull it off. If he had done a wee or poo in his nappy he would waddle around to the change table and say "up... up" He took a real interest in the toilet around that stage as well and would happily sit on the toilet the second time we tried (the first time he would scream every time we put him near it!) I know Charlotte's poo face now and although she isn't talking she is pretty good at communicating when things are happening so I take her nappy off and sit her (with me) on the toilet. I figure I'd have to empty the nappy into the toilet anyway so I might as well put her there in the first place. Maybe try with the poos first and see how that goes before full-on TT??

I think you know if your bub is ready Bec
people start with EC way younger than your bub I think if he i s squatting and saying poo he is more aware the my DS who is nearly 2, but yay for your boy there is the whole anal retentative arguement put forward from psychology of being forced to sit and poo on the potty under the thread of violence/fear, but people like to cite that without understanding the whole principle (ie violence/fear involved). the general signs are: -knows when he wees/poos -can walk to potty (but most EC early started are lifted to a spot) -can tell you (in some manner, doesn't need to be words) that he needs the potty here is some Dr Sears info on TT (attachment focus) http://www.askdrsears.com/html/10/t106600.asp and from a more mainstream source http://raisingchildren.net.au/articl..._training.html good luck

LOL not necessarily true! Kira is ready to stop wearing nappies at night (she wears her trimmest nappies to bed so they feel more like undies) but being co-sleepers we're (read: Jake) scared to take the step LOL. She hasn't had a wet nappy (bar one which was understandable) in months.
