I think you need to start with potty awareness first. So make sure your son is happy to sit on the potty - doesn't matter if he does anything yet. My guys have been sitting on potty for about 6 months now - occassionally something will be in there - mainly from Emma - but most times not. They love to sit on potty! Love to take their nappies off to sit on potty - just not do anything in there yet. They have just turned 2.

I waited until mine were 3 don't know if it made it any easier or not I still hated doing it and not looking forward to it this time around either. No advice here just good luck

try EC first
my friend has her 7 month old nappy free all the time at home and he is doing well I'm about ready (well DS is) to TT soon, but want to wean first some signs that he is close to ready: -we have a potty which he sits on when I am on the loo -he tells me after he has none a pee or poo in the nappy -he takes off his nappy if he can when it's wet HTHs -he grabs himself before he wees |

Chelsea has recently started telling me when she does a wee & poo. Quite often she'll wake up from a sleep dry too. I take her to the potty (because she still isn't walking!) whenever she tells me or whenever I go to change her nappy & notice it is still dry.
Neither of my other girls were aware of their toileting at this age (17.5months) so I'm hoping this is a sign that she might TT fairly early. The best tip I've got for you is to not make a big deal out of it & believe me this can be a challenge at times! Try to keep things relaxed and casual because if they know you are stressed out about accidents then that will work against your cause. My 2nd tip is once you decide he's ready to go nappy free, then go nappy free! Don't go back & forth between nappies & jocks because, in my experience, it just prolongs the whole thing! Good luck

awareness first and then take it from there
we never did a potty, we did get a nice soft 'seat' for the loo tho and when they are ready positive encouragement, letting them observe, talking about it, not making a huge fuss over 'misses' that's a good start, but there's no rush

Felix is become TA and as said as an old nappy nerd like myself has been about it, it;s actually really cool to see him telling me about wees and doing them on the potty
