I am slowly weaning also and Alana is down to 2-3 feeds per day (and if she wakes at night) I haven't had any affects at all which makes me wonder how much she was actually getting? Also for the last month she's had 2 bottles of formula a day and has put on 600gms! Whereas the last weigh in she'd only gained 110gms for two months! She's also been so much more content....

If you notice any lumps or hard spots you will need to express to remove them, as blocked ducts can lead to mastitis.

I have some slight hardness around the nipple, but it isn't my full boob (sorry TMI). It's not painful, but DS slightly bumped before and it was tender

DS is going great, hasn't asked for boobie once
makes it a whole lot easier

Tanya, i weaned Marcus about a week and a half ago (his choice, not mine )

I currently have a seriously sore lump in one breast which has not gone away and is cause me quite a bit of discomfort. We were down to 2 feeds a day before stopping completely and I didn't express anything at all.

I'd recommend expressing enough to relieve any discomfort and don't let any lumps hang around too long. use a warm face washer and/or warm shower and massage lumps away. express if you need to until you feel any pressure disappear and then stop but don't let the lumps get too bad or you'll have trouble shifting them and you may get mastitis.

A naturapath suggested Sage when I was weaning Connor. It worked quite well for me.

Its great that DS is happy - makes it so much less stressful. Try massaging your lumps - or see your doc

cabbage leaves are great for relieving engorgement.
i'd suggest expressing just enough to make yourself comfortable - more than that will just encourage the supply. peppermint i believe is a natural anti-galactagogue, sage is also.
you'd probably be surprised how much milk zac was still getting before weaning, you may find you still need to make it a gradual reduction to avoid engorgement/mastitis. even one feed per day is still significant, many mums find they need to go from one per day down to one every second day, etc etc. so expressing a bit is fine, just gradually reduce it gradually to help you stay more comfortable.
glad zac is happy with it
