I just wanted to add this excerpt from my own readings.... I try to use this everyday when I speak to people and perhaps some of you may appreciate this.

The criteria for deciding what is worth saying

[1] "In the case of words that one knows to be unfactual, untrue, unbeneficial (or not connected with the goal), unendearing & disagreeable to others, he does not say them.

[2] "In the case of words that one knows to be factual, true, unbeneficial, unendearing & disagreeable to others, he does not say them.

[3] "In the case of words that one knows to be factual, true, beneficial, but unendearing & disagreeable to others, he has a sense of the proper time for saying them.

[4] "In the case of words that one knows to be unfactual, untrue, unbeneficial, but endearing & agreeable to others, he does not say them.

[5] "In the case of words that one knows to be factual, true, unbeneficial, but endearing & agreeable to others, he does not say them.

[6] "In the case of words that one knows to be factual, true, beneficial, and endearing & agreeable to others, he has a sense of the proper time for saying them. Why is that? Because one has [to have] sympathy for living beings."

well this one certainly opens a can of worms doesnt it?
i guess it would cancel out at least half of idle chat threads, perhaps even half of this site?

Sometimes idle chit chat is beneficial.....especially for SAHMs with no other adult social connection except the internet. Beneficial can be in the eye of the beholder.

Very ironic that I have seen this thread today. I am becoming a little (for the lack of a better word) disillusioned with some of the conversations on the site. I am all for honesty and everyone has the right for their own opinion BUT I really cannot handle seeing anything or anyone bagged for their decisions - even using disposables / formula / birth choices etc. Don't know whether it is because we have given up using cloth at present with DD due to constant rashing but am finding myself spending much much less time here then I was originally. I also feel that sometimes the community as a whole can become bogged down in an "us against them"mentality.

Again - everyone has the right to an opinion and these are mine. I wish everyone well and hope that I haven't offended anyone with my thoughts.
